This extension will ping update services such as technorati.com, or weblogs.com when a new thread is posted. You can add as many services as you wish to ping in the admin CP.

Here is a good explanation of what update services are:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services

It is recommended that you have rss and xml syndication turned ON in your vbulletin settings.

You should not add too many services as it could slow down your forum when people post new threads.

This does not update services when replies are posted, only when a new thread is started.

Installation:

Upload the IXR_Library.inc.php file to your forum root.

Install product.

Define settings in the vb options under post pinger.

Click Install! (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/vborg_miscactions.php?do=installhack&threadid=108222)

Will offer support here as I can or at my forum at http://www.worldwidecreations.com

This modification is FREE of charge, but if you wish to reward me for my work, and encourage future modifications by me, please donate below:

By duration, if you mean will it timeout? Well, it will as much as any other PHP script will timeout. You can use just the pingomatic RPC service you want by entering:

http://rpc.pingomatic.com/

Into the post pinger settings in the admin cp. I always find they lag real bad so I don't usually use them. In fact, I have never found that service to work to well at all.

Umm.. Not bad.. But it would b nice if sending ping time can b defined from admincp.. We need to make it custom, will ping in evey 5-6day or each service once in a week, another service 2nd day in a week..

hmm i gez it need some change..

coz..it ping in every thread...its not that kool..

It pings when a new thread is posted, as it should. You should notify the services as soon as you have new content.

Pinging services once a day, or the way you are saying, once a week, is pointless, your content is already a week old. What would be the point?

Maybe I am missing something here....Whats the real use of this? - to ping a location everytime someone posts?

I think I understand it, could you explain the purpose of pinging those places named above?

Could this be set up so that we could configure it on a per-forum basis? For example, the computer forum could ping technorati, but the political forum could ping somewhere else.

Not with this hack, no.

Actually, I'm going to change it to do that for me. It seems to be a simple thing to move the setting from the vbulletin options to the forum options. So, instead of having a list of forums to exclude, the setting would be in the forum manager. In each forum, it will have a list of places to ping when a new thread is posted in that forum.

It won't take me too long to do, and I'll gladly give you the code if you want it.

Sure, always ready to accept code. :)

Polls won't work after install of your plugin.

Is there a bugfix available?

After I click on submit, nothing happens (it looks like the poll webpage is loading but it is not). The next page just does not load anymore. This only happens when trying to start a poll.

Normal posts work without a problem. On my server is vbulletin 3.5.3 installed. When I deinstall post pinger, polls work without a problem again.

Server Info:
FreeBSD 5.3
Apache 1.3.33
PHP Version 4.3.11
MySQL 4.1.11

Sounds like one of the services you are trying to ping is timing you out. Remove them and add them back one by one as you test to find the offending service.

Thanks, this could be the problem since I got a lot of services to ping ( I will try it later).

Thinking out loud. It might be preferable to run this as a scheduled task instead of when a new thread is posted. It could be set up so that the time the script was last run is stored, and every time it's run, it checks to see if any new threads have been posted in forums that are set up to ping. If there are, it would ping the servers and log a report about the status of the pings.

Even so, it would lag out on a user who is unlucky enough to have spawned the scheduled task. I was contemplating forking the process, but most installations of PHP do not have this feature turned on so I decided against it.

The best bet is to find a ping service that automatically pings other services for you like pingomatic. My problem with pingomatic has always been that it never seems to ping anything.

It should also be noted that this ONLY PINGS on NEW THREADS, not on replies.

Great mod. I've just installed it. At the moment it just pings technorati. Are there any other servers you normally ping? If so what are the addresses I need to enter.

Thanks!

I just had to disable this mod :(

When I make a new post, instead of redirecting to the thread, it just loads a blank page...

Am I doing something wrong?

It could be the update service you are using is timing out.

I'd like to install this hack, but had a question on the install instructions. The TXT file reads:Upload the IXR_Library.inc.php file to your forum root (the same place newthread.php is).

Install the product.Exactly how does one "install the product". :)

Admincp -> Plugin System -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product

Make sure you have the plugin system turned on in your vbulletin settings, it is off by default.

Jafo,

What about setting it optional for you to be able to ping on new posts in the Admin area?

All the best!

I really need this for 3.6.4 because I have a forum I use as a blog (www.zuneuser.com)

Anyone know a similar one or if this works in 3.6.x?

Quick question, when you set up to get ping log and make a post as admin it will ping it and show the success etc of etc post in a screen, will this message appear to normal users when they make a post?

Jafo,

This thing here as you know is perfect, also I would like to warn a lot out there do NOT add a lot of pinging services as a warning LOL. Up to 10 is good, I put in the full list from wordpress's update services, on the forums one day to do a stress test and seen that the thread took about 3 minutes to post and then PHP did a timeout for over 180 seconds.. It posts the new thread if you open another browser you can see for yourself. :)

So this thing is what you can consider one of the best hacks for a forum.

Technorati did not get ping from my site. Any way to check out if it is installed correctly? Any template or any style setting? Got VB 3.6.5

Thanks

Remember, pings are only sent out on NEW threads. Make sure you followed the directions to the letter in the readme.

Hi,

Will this plugin work with VB4.1.7 or is there a different one that works better? I'm having trouble getting new threads indexed.

Thanks,
Dale.
