Thought you might be interested; we had to send a DMCA notice to have nullified versions of our scripts removed; but it also appears they are cross posting mods from this site.

Shouldn't it be relatively easy to track who is downloading and distrubing these hacks?
I mean, whats hte odds of someone downloading EVERY hack on here?

They posted a few of my hacks without asking for my permission.

I am all for a license-wide ban on people who download mods from here and distribute them to others. If people continue to do this, I will eventually pull all of my mods from this site - which does not adequately protect my work - and release it only at my own site.
While we hold the copyrights to our mods, I believe it is ultimately Jelsoft's responsibility to ensure that they do the most possible to protect the content we post here.

I agree and disagree on this. I think jelsoft should give us more tools to help us safeguard of works. I understand jelsoft has a limited team of attorneys so they cant be everywhere at once and suing everyone for us. it would too costly and inefficient. ultimately it is our responsibility but jelsoft should try to offer more protective tools.

I am not looking for their lawyers to chase everybody on our behalf. I want all downloads tracked by username here. I want license-wide bans on transgressors. I want a tracker of some sort hidden in downloads so that they can tell which user here has redistributed our work. If this site is going to be the distribution site for copyrighted work, then it has to have some sort of security in place to protect that work. Especially if they are not going to enforce our copyrights.
If Jelsoft continues to worry about the privacy of the people who use our code more than the rights of the people who write the code, I think the developers should reconsider posting here.

The staff and Jelsoft are aware of this site. I've removed the link from the first post to prevent unlicensed users from finding the site.
If you have released a modification here and would like to make sure it has not been uploaded to that site feel free to PM me and I will check for you.

Not to come across as racist, but in my business anyway, I have more rips and attempted fraud purchases from Vietnamese than any other group.

CinVin is also one of the sites who has stuff being redistributed on that site. :disappointed:

I think we owe it to the community to be on the lookout for these kinds of sites, which is why I posted it here. As a group we should make the effort to ensure that sites which are distributing each others works illegally are quickly shut down.
We have an effective attorney and had our items removed quickly; however, not everyone has that benefit. I would suggest posting a clean "DMCA notice" which anyone could use to send as an official request to an ISP to have content removed by the hosting company (forget dealing with the site owner, he's already proven to be a crook).

I agree with tracking the usernames... it can't be that hard to find the handful of users that must be doing this and revoking htier liscence.
If they are doing this with the mods and in the case of the original site, paid apps, chances are they are doing with vbulletin too - so its in jelsofts best interests to do this.

Just a quick question regarding the URL..
It was removed to prevent unlicensed users from going to the link, which is understandable.. but as was mentioned in the first post, some mods from here are being ported over without permission. Perhaps the community would like to check and see if they were a victim of that?
Would it be possible for a URL in this instance to be posted in [CODE] tags? That way unlicensed users can't see it.. or can we not trust even the licensed members with something like that?

There is at least one licensed member here I know of who associates with the owner a warez site that has stolen stuff from here. His site doesn't host files, just offsite links and his host has already refused Pirate Report's demands to shut him down. For those of you interested in learning more about this battle, I would suggest visiting Howard at www.piratereportsforum.com/index.php (http://www.piratereportsforum.com/index.php)

Amy is right in that there definitely needs to be some sort of security on the mods released here, a list of who downloads them is a good way to at least get a group of suspects.

I know lots of Turkish sites are doing the same thing. I reported all of them and no action was taken against them. They buy a license and download all the hacks from here and release it on their site. I really hate this and i also believe Jellsoft must do something about it maybe the best solution is cancelling their license or something similar about it.

Well, I see they have my hacks posted. This seems to be widespread. Jelsoft needs to get on some type of enforcment binge here.
Added security is a must.
Some suggestions:
Webpage listing in user profile should not be an option. Everyone should have their licensed site auto posted.
Also, just like you can see a hack authors hacks. Everyone should have installed hacks listed and maybe downloaded hacks in an admin viewable only page.

That's hard to prove. Also, it could be misstargeted. I had to register and post at one in order to verify the theft. They have it so you can't see the link unless you post.
I have notified the Registrar and host of the site. Unfortunately, they merely link to the files hosted on a offshore site.

yes, you are right but something has to be done ... eg. if court proceeding exists all records can be obtained and proxy/IP/etc lookup can be accomplished ... with this information members can be banned

Good luck...I have worked with Howard at Pirate Reports to get the one you are refering to shut down, and their host has basically said to flip off (Netherlands). There is interesting history about that site and the owner of it ;)

my opinion is before someone can download any hack post by a coder they should first click install and add to a list that coder can check all members that install his hack .
and also a reasonable limit to hack download per day no one need to download 30 hacks in one day .
since they linking descriptions of the hacks to this site there have to be a way to block visitors from those url .
