Hello, i been using phpbb for close to 2 years now. After browsing through the vb forum for close to an hour, I really want to conver to VB. I but I some doubts.

I have modified my version of phpbb...extensively. If I convert vb, how do I do it? Is it free? Will the mods that I install have an effect on the conversion? I just want to get the members, the post, the groups, permissions...etc etc. Whatever is required to start a new forum. How does converting from a phpbb to a vb work? Can i get someone to do it for me?

When browsing through the forum, i found pretty much every mod that I have for phpbb, except one. Can someone tell me if there is a mod that works with the cash system? But what I'm looking for is not the cash/points system but the ability for a use to "sell posts". Directly on the forum.

Example of it would be here... http://www.romeo-help4u.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1336 Can anyone suggest an alternative to this mod?

Thank you for your help.

hello,

Welcome to vbulletin ;) The vbulletin "convert" process is called ImPex.You only need to pay for vbulletin after that you cango to the membersarea and download Impex.Your conversion will work on a "raw phpBB" code (eg no hacks / mods).Officially vbulletin does not convert for customers (except for ezboard converts ) but you could post in the service requests forum after you have access here)

I'm not sure what you mean about the "sell" posts hack but vbulletin has a feature called "payed subscriptions" (throug several online paying systems) even a donations hack is availible here

ImpEx works with the standard phpBB Database tables (not on code). As long as the standard columns for your users and posts are still available in the database in their original definition, modifications should not effect the import process.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to confirm. are there alot of freelancers in the vb community that does moding work for a price or is everything "community".

vBulletin.org has a lot of members that produce Modification released for free to the community. Also some coders accept commercial jobs. If you want to ask for help on creating modifiction without pay, you can post in our Modification Requests forum. If you are willing to pay for the job, you can post the request in teh Service Requests forum. Please note that these forums are only open for posting by our licensed members.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. I'm still having some doubts...everything looks good. Yea I was thinking about some commerical modifcations. What would be the average price per project? I know it depends what has anything major been done? Like over a few thousand dollars?

The price is really up to you and the coder you hire to decide. It could be a few hundred, it could be a few thousands, etc.

thanks...

I just bought it...but now I have a question, which should I install? I want the best of the hacks that vb have to offer...if I install the latest version will that affect my hack useablity list?

Well, it depends on what hacks you want. If some of them are only for 3.0.x, you might want to get that, but otherwise you're better off with 3.5.x, especially as the modifications will be a great deal easier and quicker to install on 3.5.x.
