Description:

This hack compresses your sites Templates into the database resulting in a significantly smaller page size and faster loading pages.
The benefits of this Template Compressor as opposed to virtually any other that you have installed is that this compresses the templates into the database.

Other hacks compress the pages on every page load which takes CPU/Memory usage as well as slows down the actual output of the page.

PS. Use this in conjunction with my Other Hack (Accelerated Plugins) for speeding up your forum even more (If you use plugins especially).

Background:

This is a semi-port from my Vbulletin 3 Version: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=79923


Instructions:

1. Download Zip File, Extract files..
2. Read install.txt and follow it
3. Note: Anytime you update your templates, make sure to click "Compress Templates".
4. If you have any problems with certain hacks not working, add affected templates to "Template Ignore" setting in the Admin Control Panel settings.


Common Templates That May Need To Be Added to Ignore Settings:

phpinclude_start phpinclude_end editor_jsoptions_font editor_jsoptions_size forumhome navbar forumhome_vbshout forumhome_vbshout_shout


Updates:

Changed setting location, you now modify them in the Admin Control Panel under Template Compressor Settings; there you can specify the templates to ignore.
Flashchat, others sometimes cause problems; so by default a few vbchat templates are listed in the ignore setting.

Btw guys, I made a small edit to the install.txt file.. so please replace the PHP code it gives you in there if you already made the change to template.php

And no do not use hellcats at the same time as it will be redundant, you only need to click "Compress Templates" after installing it, and anytime you update a template; the rest of the time your pages are already compressed.

PS. Use this in conjunction with my Other Hack that is in development for even faster pages (If you use plugins especially).

Looking at that hack, seems have some javascript.. although this hack generally does fine with almost "All" javascript. Im working on remaking the regex to fix this problem.

As for your current situation, looking that vbshoutbox hack, it seems that hes using the template "forumhome_vbshout", for most of the html/javascript.

1. Uncompress all templates
2. I would probably place his html back in the forumhome_vbshout template and forumhome_vbshout_archive, just replace all of it.
3. add forumhome_vbshout and forumhome_vbshout_archive to the $b_t (bad templates) array as shown in the code in install.txt (Just look in there and you will see how ive already got 4 templates that are ignored by default, just add forumhome_vbshout and any other problematic templates in the array).
4. Compress Templates :)

No point in using both, hellcats actually slows down page output as its having to compress on every page load... that was the reason i released this hack on vb3 way back when.. and vb3.5 now.

No point in having compression if its not gonna help speed up the page; and you cant if ur compressing on each page load.

It may be tomorrow, you can go ahead and download it as it will work for almost 99% of the cases; if not just "Uncompress templates" and it should return anything broken back to normal.

It doesnt compress on the GUI side (admincp) but if you look at the page source you will see it.

Another hack that stops working when compressing is the "Members who have visited the forum (Today or last 24 hours)" (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?threadid=82769) hack. Whenever I compress the templates, it wont show but when I decompress them, it shows up.

You are supposed to upload the "cpnav tpl compress.xml" file to includes/xml and "product tpl compress.xml" is the one that should be uploaded as a product.

I am having a problem with a few templates. Some templates are used as text for emails sent by the board and the board sends them in plain text. When they are compressed, all of the white space used to separate parts of the emails is removed so the email comes in as a jumbled mess. It would be helpful to be able to flag certain templates as not to be compressed to avoid that.

Just redone the file edit and re-imported the product and the problem is still the same as before.

Try to uncompress all templates, then recompress; if it still doesnt work.

Look inside the shoutboxes product file and make not of every use of every custom template that it installs, and add it to the bad templates array; then recompress again.. and if that still causes problems..

I will install that hack myself and try to figure out; cause im confused as to what could be causing the errors..

I'm not disabling this hack because of the shoutbox, it's an excellent addition.

Well if it messes up some hack on your templates, all you have to do is click "Uncompress Templates". Nothing this hack does is "permanent"; it can always be reverted.

I am working on some issues with very rare instances of problems, but in general its pretty compatible with everything.

ive added 'forumhome' to the bad array list; however, when compressing I still see forumhome_vbshout being compressed even though it is already in the ignore list and my shoutbox fails to show up once i run this hack.

Uninstall product, Reinstall product using new Product xml file. Replace old php code with the newer php code listed in install.txt and use the hack as usual.

Got the vBShout working?
My guess is the shoutbox vanishes, because the PlugIn of vBShout uses HTML comments in the FORUMHOME template for a search/replace to hook itself in there at runtime.

If those comments get compressed out it doesn't find it's spots to place itself in.

I didn't take a look yet how my RegEx have been integrated in this, but in my realtime compressor all (and only, to keep compression high) comments containing a "[" are ingnored/left.
This was initially to get compatibility with AnyMedia, but can also be used to make other needed HTML comment "immun" to the compression.

Maybe this 2ct help a bit :)

This hack does nothing permanent. You can leave the hack installed, just use "Uncompress Templates" to return them back to normal; and figure out which template you need to add to the ignore list.

simply add

navbar to ignore list.. if its anything else its your install problem, as it wasnt working for me at all, but then i added navbar, now works perfect.

make sure you have it set out right aswell..

Ya it kinda differs from setup to setup, alot of it has to do with conditionals that can be broken quite easily I believe.

Just installed and all seems to be well. I can't say I can tell any difference in performance mind you, but the forums tend to be quiet at the weekends anyway.

Looking at that hack, seems have some javascript.. although this hack generally does fine with almost "All" javascript. Im working on remaking the regex to fix this problem.

As for your current situation, looking that vbshoutbox hack, it seems that hes using the template "forumhome_vbshout", for most of the html/javascript.

1. Uncompress all templates
2. I would probably place his html back in the forumhome_vbshout template and forumhome_vbshout_archive, just replace all of it.
3. add forumhome_vbshout and forumhome_vbshout_archive to the $b_t (bad templates) array as shown in the code in install.txt (Just look in there and you will see how ive already got 4 templates that are ignored by default, just add forumhome_vbshout and any other problematic templates in the array).
4. Compress Templates :)

Its in your vbulletin options in your Control Panel. Look for the category, find the setting and add them to it.

How can i delete all of this from my database.........I finished the install of the 3 hack's listed above and it literally killed my site......I no longer am able to use shoutbox, attachment's in quickreply, photoshop images on forum home, etc...........

Please reinstall the template compressor. And click "Uncompress Templates". That should restore your templates to normal form.

I would have to add a template or a phrase or a datastore item that stored that little bit of information, and it wouldnt change.. it would stay the same.

Like Ive already said 1000000000000000 times; it does the compression once and saves them in your template table. You would just be looking at a static number everytime you loaded the page.

Find the associated template names and add them to the Ignore Setting, and recompress the templates.

Before I go hosing up stuff....I trust this mod hack is compatable with 3.5.4?

I'm trying everything I can to cut CPU time down as my host is griping about it since my board is taking 200K hits a day.... trying to avoid the expense of a dedicated server for as long as possible. So any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well.

Installed hack (RC3) this morning and it seems to work just fine. My question is, on the instructions it says - Click "Rebuild Hook Cache". This will build the cache used for compiling plugin code into the FileSystem, anytime you add a new hook location in the code you will want to re-run this to reparse the file and update the cache.

- Click "Rebuild All Plugins". This will take care of compiling all of your enabled
plugins into their appropriate files.

I don't have any place to click to rebuild hook cache nor to rebuild all plugins unless it is some place I haven't looked.

Can anyone let me know if I should keep looking or uninstall or what?

after some tries, I fixed this, the problems is because of the Plugin Accelerator Hacks, when I installed it and enabled it, my forum was running well. But when I diabled or uninstall it, my forum met problem again!
Please find a way to fix that or remove that hack :D

OK -I've just redone the edit of template.php in the admin folder (as noted in the release instructions).

The hack seems to be working fine with 3.6.

Some plugins use string replace to find the comment code and insert their output under/above it. This hack remove the comments. To stop it removing them, remove this line from admincp/template.php:
$c = preg_replace('/<!--[^\{\[]*?-->/i',"",$c);

Don't forget to uncompress/recompress your temps after doing so.

How can I add a specific user to be allowed to view the stats like the admins can? He is an admin but thats set as his secondary usergoup for personal reasons. So I can't change it there.

I think this works great with most versions :D The error everyones having is really simple: the regex seeks out all comments, spaces, etc. and reduces or removes them. Pretty much EVERY hack that 'self installs' so to speak uses template comments or other common code areas as a way to 'inject' themselves with a str_replace or preg_replace. Those comments are GONE when you compress your templates, so your hacks have no way to find where to go . To fix these, either put in the optional variable the hack gives (such as $cyb_chatbox as an example), hard code the templates information as needed from the plugin (this is how I put in the 'Who has visited' hack), or change what the plugin looks for, if it looks for a comment, change it to look for something unique in your code around the same area (obv less reliable method). Just don't let the plugins pick where they go, put them where you want yourself, and you can use this great!

Now this means this hack takes a little more experience then some others, but honestly, if you use hacks, mods, or template edits, you SHOULD be more experienced, or just don't do it.


One last comment: I have gotten this to work with EVERY hack i have (except form hack I had to put the answer templates in the bad array exceptions), and I have some difficult ones like the "Who's online in the last 24 hours", the flashchat mods, the Cyb-Chatbox, etc. It's not too hard if you look beyond this as it's this hacks fault, it's doing it's function, the OTHER hacks are not built for this, and it's YOUR job as a webmaster to make it work for you. These plug-ins are making forum owners soft IMO, either use them with some understanding, or if they confuse you there's always the uninstall/delete option, don't blame the coder

I did step by step installation, but "Compress Template" isn't showing on my adminCP. I understood, that I have to upload "product-tpl_compress.xml" and "cpnav_tpl_compress.xml" in includes/xml folder. Am I right?

I also updated admincp/template.php as described in install document.

I tried to use on 4.2.2, but the "Quick Reply" won't work. Also, there is no option to uninstall in Plugin Manager. System timed out when I tried to "uncompress" to get quick reply back, and had to reinstall everything again :(
