Countdown Timer for your users

This little AddOn gives your users the option to show a custom countdown timer at the bottom of their signature.

Features: Fully configurable via UserCP (see screenshot)
BB-Code can be used for eventname and overmessage :)
fully phrased/templated, nothing hardcoded and so fully customizable
leading days or hours with a value of "0" are not shown
(so it shows "42minutes" rather then "0days 0hours 42minutes")

Installation:
Painless: Upload "plugins_usercountd.php" to ".../forum/includes"
Import the product .XML

DONE :)
That's it.
No template edits, no nothing :D


Usage:
Go into your UserCP -> Edit Options
On the very bottom you will find the options for the Countdown Timer.
Set it to whatever you like, if "Enable" is set to "Yes" the timer will automatically be shown on the bottom of your sig, set to "No" will hide/disable the time display :)

[FIX] Phrased the last three things that were not (Yes/No of the enable radio and main description)
[NEW] Added Usergroup Permissions for the countdown! :)
In the usergroupmanager it now has an area "User Countdown Permissions" where the admin can allow/enable or disallow/disable the countdown timer for each usergroup.

If the usergroup permissions do not work, or even don't show up at all, you might need to rebuild the bitfield using this URL:
http://yourdomain.tld/pathtoforum/admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields

I am currently hunting another flaw I just encountered.
On my live board it doesn't save the settings.... No idea why (yet), on my testinstall it does....

Yes.
There has to be a signature (at least one char) and in the post's option "Show my signature" has to be checked.

This way it will not show to ppl who have the display of sigs disabled.

Just one q: Is there anyway we can have an option to use a pic next to the countdown date? Pics would be editable by admin and if the user does not want a pic they don't have to select one. This would be cool cause I could use my own graphics for usages...then maybe I wouldn't have so many other tickers in my members siggies...which is a whole bunch of them....

Find in your Style Manager the template "usercountdown_display" and open it.
Remove all <fieldset> and <legend> tags -> gone is the border :)

Yes, that's right.
The countdown only shows if there's a signature for that post.
So if someone disabled sigs showing it's also not shown.
That's on purpose, but might be enhanced in future updates :)

Is there a way to make more than one countdown? My members do a ton of countdowns on my forum and the tickers from the ticker sites really slow the load time (not to mention taking up tons of space) so I'd love to enable more than one countdown to get rid of some of the tickers.

At the moment it can only be installed once for one countdown.
(I tried to just change the product ID in the XML and some other identifiers - the second install still messed up the whole thing down to the unability to uninstall it - thankfully it was on my local dev. vB :D)

If you put the contents of the counter display template inside a 1x1 cells table it should do the trick.

Can you seperate the signature & this countdown event? I want the count down shown & no signature, if no countdown then show the signauture, something like

Short story = db is messed up. I have some work to do.

Ok, I need help on manually removing this plugin, my board is down currently. I've never had any problems like this with other plugins or my years of running phpbb forums and manually editting stuff.

Can anyone help me out? before viewthread died completely, I had 7 entries in the usercp for events. I know I haven't tried this 7 times, and I dug around in the templates and don't see multiple entries for anything related to this.

field 17 is gone of course, was one that I deleted from the db. Can you point out the code modifications I need to remove? I'm new to the .xml and can sort of understand it, but not completely.

Weird that it still wanted to access the files when the plugins are deleted....
Did the product / the plugins still show up on the plugin manager?

Try installing, reinstall with overwrite, then uninstall and see where you end up. I think that's what got me.

That's the point: NO OVERWRITE
Besides, after unistalling the overwrite is somewhat meaningless, since there is nothing to overwrite.

I think that's what causing the problems. Reinstalling by overwriting the current one (without uninstalling it first), and vB also re-runs the installer code (wich it shouldn't) and that really messes things up.

I will enhance the installer somehow to prevent that!

I know this was a couple weeks ago, but to solve this, just use the style attribute inline for the fieldset.
in template usercountdown_display
FIND: <fieldset class="fieldset">

REPLACE WITH: <fieldset class="fieldset" style="width:300px;">
or whatever width you want. You can also use percentage.
REPLACE WITH: <fieldset class="fieldset" style="width:50%;">

You also may need to add a <br/> before the fieldset tag.

I deleted most of the related parts in SQL but there's a few instances of the countdown that are mingled into certain tables that contain other stuff and I don't want to mess it up. Can you help me get rid of it completely? All in are in table 'datastore'. If you need the specific code LMK.

I've installed but can't see the countdown, also got a modified modifyoptions template ( user select new searches). what do I need to do to alter this to get countdown to show up please??

A safe uninstaller would be useful or can i just delete the product and remove the Includes/plugins_usercountd.php and includes/xml/bitfield_hc_countdown.xml files??

I only want a small user group to have access to this product so I'm hoping queries won't be too much.

Onyl sometimes, esp. when re-installed with "Allow Overwrite" things could get a bit messy - therefor the cleanup script.

Also ATM countdowns only show when a sig is present and displayed - I'm going to tweak that as well.

So to unistall, remove via product manager, remove Includes/plugins_usercountd.php and includes/xml/bitfield_hc_countdown.xml files and then reinstall everything.

I didn't have a signature showing before the install and only added one after I installed then read the full thread :(

Well I found how to fix it and SQL Database works better now, To the people who have SQL Database, this might help you

Go to Admin
User Profile Fields - User Profile Field Manager

Delete the Countdown, it will tell you that it has error but keep deleting all until you got them deleted, then your SQL Database will work as normal.

It worked for me. Hope this helps.

I'm not getting it for some reason.

I uploaded the plugins_usercountd.php file to my includes directory, then went into the Admin CP > Plugin System > Manage Products > Add/Import Products, and uploaded the product-hc_usercountdown110.xml file.

I went to my User CP but nothing shows up. What have I done wrong? (Apologies - I'm new to VBulletin).

Also, how does clicking Install on this thread affect my plugin? I don't see how it can.

after the hack wouldn't show I tried to re-install ... and got the message above. When I tried to unistalll it said that the plugin wasn't available... however it was in my database.

I can't uninstall this ... can someone help me out on which queries to run??? This hack has dissappeared from the plugin menu in my admincp; however, it still shows in edit options and I assume that remnants are still in the database.

The Timer is great, but it doesn´t look so fine togehter with the signature.

There is a black line, then the signature, then, without a space, the border with the timer inside. It´s too much different stuff, different fonts and so on.

I love the border so I think about ... how could I remove the black line and put the signature inside the border also? Then everything is inside the border, that would look nice.

I tried it out but I have no clue. Any suggestions, where to look for?

Finally....
I just upload an updated version of the countdown timer!

There are no changes to the countdown itself, but I completely replaced the install/uninstall code to perform cleanup actions during install!

If you have a messed up install or you are unable to (re)install or even uninstall the coundown, download the new version 1.12 and import it with "Allow Overwrite" enabled.

During install the product will now perform a cleanup, removing all remains of a previous installation, including left over install/uninstall codes that may cause problems, before doing the actual installation.

Okay, I admit it, I'm picky. I really like this hack, but there were a few things I wanted to change. First, I wanted to change it in the user CP so that the dropdown menu to select the month came before the day. I guess that's an American thing to prefer that. Anyway, I managed to do that. But the other thing that I wanted to change was the actual display in the posts so that there would be a space between the number and the measure of time and add commas where appropriate.

For example, currently the countdown would appear like this in a signature:
19days 1hours 20minutes

I would want it to appear like this:
19 days, 1 hour(s), 20 minutes

Is that possible?

Anyway, nice hack. I like the idea. I'm just going to edit some things to make it look like I want.

I think another thing that at least I'm going to attempt to do is show the countdown on the main User CP page. Is there a way to display the current countdown on the main User CP page without it being in the signature?

I'm just thinking especially if it'll be possible to make multiple countdowns in the future, it would be cool to show them all on the main User CP page for the user's sake. Okay, I'm done babbling now. Just some ideas.

Hi everyone, I had the previous version of this hack running, and users were complaining of it not working quite right? They would fill out their details for the countdown, and then save it, but the countdown would not show??? They had something in their signature feild, so that was not the problem?

The details for the countdown would not even save in the edit options page. For example, see the screen shot after you submit your countdown, it's blank??

I thought I'd upgrade to the latest version of the countdown, but that did not fix the issue, I un-installed the last version, re-installed the new version, and the same problem??

It's like it's not storing data somewhere? The edit options page fields remain blank after submiting and the countdown is not showing up??? I've gone throught the uninstall/re-install process 3 times and no luck??? Any advice on how to fix this???

I have tried importing via the "upload the XML file from your computer" way and also used FTP to upload the file to the ./includes/xml/ directory and used the "import the XML file from your server" and both ways I get the error message Above.

I have been using this plugin for some time now. Just now I stumbled upon something that it seems I have overlooked in the past.
The file "/includes/plugins_usercountd.php" gets parsed every time postbit_display_complete is called. Meaning that if you look at a thread with 50 posts per page that file will be parsed 50 times. Luckily the script includes no database queries :)
This has probably little effect if you use a php opcode cache like xcache, apc etc. On systems that don't use an opcode cache for php this plugin will generate plenty of unneeded overhead.

I'm seriously thinking of removing this plugins from my forums because of this even if it didn't visibly affect me so far (probably because I have always used xcache). My board recently hit the 1 million post milestone so every bit of gained performance is valuable from now on.

Someone wanna take a stab? The mod just says that it cant be redistributed with out giving credit. LOL doesnt say we can fix it if its broke.

I don't think $vbuserfields is used anymore, however I'm not a coder so I could be wrong. I'd like to see this work in 3.7.x too, but it probably needs a complete rewrite.

I've uploaded and installed this and I'm using vBulletin 3.8.4 Patch Level 2; it looks like everything is done right, but it's not showing up under "edit options" in the user control panel. Does anyone know what I can do to make this work?
