Where was it? I'm having essentially the same difficulties and have searched for hours. Oy!

Alternating Colors 1 and 2 in thew main CSS did the trick for me.
I'm wondering though how to add to extra CSS attributes in order to have the background for that feature independant of the Alternating Color1 and 2.

Thanks for the input Wizardan. I tried those two just now and they didn't change the area I was looking to change. It's great learning all of these things - as a very new convert to vBulletin, I'm growing to like it more and more.
Anyone know how to change the background or text in the pulldown menu of the top nav bar? "Quick Links" and "Miscellaneous" appear to be in the same font color as the background so they remain basically invisible to the users. I've spent hours trying to track this down (searching here and at vbulletin.com, testing, reading the manual, etc.) with no luck at all.

Maybe this (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/color_maps_navbar) is usefull?

Thanks for the pointer. I've seen that before but cannot locate .thead anywhere in any of the css files. I've looked and looked. I'm obviously looking in the wrong place but I'm at a loss at this point.
EDIT: Finally figured it out. Funny how silly you feel once you realize how easy something is that's been giving you fits and fits.
Thanks for all of the input. :)
