Large Forum Icons for forums in seperate columns

How would I set up my forum to have large forum icons like this:

I know that I should use the "forums arranged in columns on forumhome" hack at https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=99829&highlight=forums+columns but will that allow me to add these large icons?

The forum icons is a small hack by Livewire. Search for his hacks.
