My site only has 38 members and of those there are really only 1-3 people on at a time, including guests. Yet when I go to my site it generally takes about 5-8 seconds just to load the front page. I have a few hacks installed but nothing I would think could slow it down that much. If you could go to my site and tell me what you think www.theholonet.net. I am on a shared hosting plan, but would that make a huge difference? I know it would if there are alot of sites sharing but this is bad. It even takes long just to follow a link from my navbar and back home. Is it my site, my style, my hacks, my hosting? Also is there a way to check the speed at which it is loading and compare to something that will give me a better idea at how fast it should be loading?

Any help or comments are greatly appreciated:)

I cant even get on your site.

Try turning on debug mode, at the bottom will be a part that says queries executed, time to execute, and server load. If you can copy / paste this here that will help.

Also, what hacks are you running and who are you hosted with?

Lastly, you can create a "default" style and try browsing around with that to see if thats possibly an issue.

It could be the shoutbox

*EDIT*
Just noticed when looking at my control panel at 1and1.com that the dB I use for my forum is unavailable, yet I can still access my site and move around. This slow problem has been going on for about a month and I do remember seeing that "unavailable" once before but it went back to available when I refreshed. I tried to call 1and1 and they said they were experiencing a high call volume and told me to call back later and hung up on me

The query count isn't bad ... yeah I think you will need to talk to 1and1 and see what they say.

I emailed my host and it is running 100% faster now. Is there something more I can do?

Synth,

One other thing you might do is update CMPS to the newer 2.1.0 version. The new version added several new options to better take advantage of a sites cache when pulling the threads for the front page.

EDIT: For those interested, here's the list of new features... ;)
