Hey all,
What is Menu Alert?
This modification, installs an alert that is displayed globally across your vBulletin forum.
It is completely admin controllable, and simple to install.
What can I do using Menu Alert?
The features of Menu Alert include:
Alert Menu Switch - Ability to turn your alert on/off.
Title/Content Change - Ability to change the title and content of your alert.
Title/Content Colour Change - Ability to change the colour of both your title and content of your alert.
Marquee Switch - Ability to turn on a 'Marquee'. This turns your alert into a 'Marquee'.
Marquee Direction - Ability to change the direction in which the marquee turns.
Title Prefix - Ability to change the prefix of your title.
HTML Ready - You can use HTML in this release!
How long will it take me to install Menu Alert?
Menu Alert is easier to install than any of my previous modifications! Just one product, will install:
1 Template
1 Plugin
1 Admin Controllable Menu
All you must do is insert $menualert into your navbar template and it's fully installed!

Nice hack :)
And isn't there an hook location between navbar and forums? Then it could be a product without template modifications :)

nice hack, installed.
feature suggestions:
ability to use/store several messages
add slot machine type scrolling so that when used in conjunction with the above feature it would rotate between one message and another by flipping up.
ability to point the hack to a forum/s to pull the latest threads from it
ability to turn it off by usergroups

It's good. But, I have a suggestion.
I think it's hard to read the marquee, especially when you run your screen resolution high as I do. It doesn't scroll across the screen smoothly, and you can't stop it by mousing over it.
Might I suggest some way to stop the scroll when you mouse over it, or, enable some way to adjust the speed? The slot machine effect mentioned above is a good suggestion also.
Nice work.

How does this hack differ from the Global Anouncement? (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104714) It's bacicly the same but just in a different location?

Great Hacks by the way
I use the Global Announcement as an announcment area for my VBDrupal Blog area, as VBDrupal has no current way of bringing attention to itself on the forum home template. I just manually input the new additions into the GA hack.
I use the Menu Alert hack as a "global announcement" device....
Works great.

Thanks Marky
I stripped it down to the bare necessities. :laugh:
I agree about the scrolling needing some work, it moves about 60mph across my board.

How can i slow down the scroll?
go to your admincp, style & templates, style manager,.......then click on the double arrow's.......scroll down to "menualert" and click customize......when the template opens up, delete all of the infromation in the box and add this: <!-- Alert Menu Content -->
<div align="center">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-top-width:0px">
<tr align="center"><if condition="$vboptions[alert_menu_switch]">
<td class="vbmenu_control" width="75"><font color="#{$vboptions['alert_menu_title_text_colour']}"><b>{$vboptions['alert_menu_title']}{$vboptions['alert_menu_title_fix']}</b></font></td>
<td class="vbmenu_control" width="535" align="left"><if condition="$vboptions['alert_menu_marquee_switch']">

</if>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
<!-- / #End Alert Menu Content -->
click save and reload............
the only change that i made was: scrolldelay="120" this is what will control your speed, you can change to your specific need's, but i think 120 is perfect.........Increase the number to slow down the scroll.........try inserting 140.........ect.
I hope it was okay for me to post this, please delete if not...........thanks, hotwheels

Hi m8
You need to edit the text in red (ok so red shows green pmsl) :) me sorted mine
<marquee direction="{$vboptions['alert_menu_marquee_direction']}" width="820" scrollAmount="1" height="14" onMouseover="this.scrollAmount=0"

*Menu Alert Updated to 1.1*
In this version you can now edit the width of your marquee and change the speed of it completely Admin Controlled.
Also, there is no need for template edits in the upgrade. Just Upload the new product and edit the new options available in the admin CP.
Thanks,

Go to your templates and look in the template menualert, make sure you have the following in the template:
<!-- Alert Menu Content -->
<div align="center">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-top-width:0px">

Like RaceJunkie said, IE7 is in development - and I am currently using it, but I've found many bugs indeed. For example, when I visited your site, you get a square welcome box appear but only half of it appears. I'm sure Microsoft will fix these issues, but unfortunatly, because the coding of this modification has nothing to do with that issue, I can't fix it :( Sorry :(

Looks they they have a way to go before it will be fully ready...

hence the reason of asking....
Thanks anyway me thinks i will stick with FF for now lol

I just installed it and love it.
Three suggestions:
1. Could there be a way to alternate the messages which move across the page?
2. Is there any way to capture content such as sports scores and have it somehow scroll across?
3. And is there a way to not have a title and have the text scroll all the way to the far left of the bar?

I'm confused... i am new to this. I have imported the xml as a product... but i see nothing like the admin cp image that was posted anywhere in my admin cp. I added $menualert in the navbar template for one of my styles and it didn't seem to affect anything. What am I doing wrong. Also everyone that posts hacks leave sort of minimal directions on how to set them up is there like a tutorial for installing hacks/plugins/whatever else they are called that i am missing or am is it just sort of common knowledge... after installing one or two of em you get it.
Sorry i am not and idiot just need a little direction with this stuff :surprised:
