Retro Blue

Designed by J. Digory of Neeto.org (http://www.neeto.org/) for free use.
Included in the style are PSD/PNG files so that users of both Fireworks and Photoshop may edit the logo and add new Site Links.

There is no longer a demo version of this style, as development as stopped and my personal site has moved on to other uses. To those who used this style in the past, thank you. To those who wanted more development, I am sorry. Screenshots are available in the second post.

Bugs & Other Gnats
Myself and a few others have tested the style on both Mac and Windows using multiple browsers. Opera is the only one that ended up needing some special coding just for it, but it should be behaving properly now. But if you do find something that is not quite right, share it. I will do whatever I can to fix them in a timely manner.

Edit (1/15/06) - The included instructions do not mention that the Site Links buttons, located to the right of the logo, need to be configured. I have included a PSD and a fireworks PNG file that will allow you to easily make your own buttons for this area.

As a side note, I have made a set of smilies that are only available at my site. They go well with this style, but I have chosen to release them seperately, as by default, smilies are universal across the site. While the same is true about icons, it is my design, and I chose to do icons.

Edit (2/8/06) - I have fixed the layered logos and some images, as well as a few templates.

Edit (7/31/06) - A version for vB 3.6 has been released here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122689).

Enjoy.

P.S. Thank you Robert, Disjunto, and Elmo, all from vbulletin-fans.com for your help in the early stages of the style.

These Screenshots should give an idea what the style is like, as well as show some of the unique template changes done to it.

Outstanding share, and a great skin!

I have to say that this is one of the better free skins I have seen released here. Most people that make skins just change the color and call it a skin. Its nice to see someone release a skin that is different from that.

Thanks,

Thanks to those who have installed, and to those who have commented. It feels nice to have people appreciate the work I have done.
If someone ends up using it, I would love to see it in action.

looks great. if you increase items on the menu, does the menu box scale bigger? also, i like the rounded edges on the bar where you register. there's a lot of circles so would it be possible to round the edges where the tcat are?

*clicks install*

The tcats could obviously be rounded, but it's beyond the scope of what I had planned on doing for this style. It would not be very hard to do it though.

And yes, the menu can scale bigger. I made it capable of accepting 3 site links by default, but if you stretch the forum links above them in one row, you will have more room to fit more links. However, this would mean you would need to redo the template, as well as change the graphic.

I can do custom incarnations of the design, but I won't do them free. The time already invested in the style is a nice gift to the community, I feel.

You have to update your image paths. All of your images are in the folder /forum/, while your vbadvanced is in your root folder. This is fine, but make sure you update your image paths to the full url. Also, there is a setting for the header, navbar, and footer ikn vbadvanced that will place the full url before a link if you set it to do that. If you choose to (which you should) please be aware that the navbar no longer holds the row of links for the forum, and it is now instead in the header.

The issues you are having are not specific to this theme, but are actually vbacmps issues that you will run into when you have the forum and portal in a different folder. Anyway, I am always glad to help. Let me know through a PM should you require more assistance with the vbacmps side of things. :) Your header looks GREAT, btw.

A very nice style with a smooth, inviting and consistent feel. I have a few suggestions though:

The "Important Info.html" file could be renamed README.html, which is more consistent with other software installation norms.

The "Important Info.html" file should briefly mention how to install the style.

The "Important Info.html" file should also mention that if vBadvanced is installed outside the forums directory, that you will need to reinstall only using the "update image locations" option.

The "Important Info.html" file should also mention that if vBadvanced is installed outside the forums directory that the "Additional CSS Definitions" section of the "Style Manager" section under the "Styles and Templates" main menu item will have to be modified. The images will be broken unless the "background: url" options refer to "/forum-directory/images/" not just "images/"

I have been using the style for a couple weeks and the forum members are very happy with it. Works with VB 3.5.4 too.

All the praises for this style are well deserved.

Those are nice suggestions. I think I will keep the odd naming for the file though, as consistency with other "readme" files doesn't much concern me. It is pretty normal not to look in a README file.

Anyway, the other suggestions seem beyond what any style I have seen here include, but I think they are not bad ideas at all. Assuming someone knows how to do something isn't really fun for those that don't know. I'll try and work on something to include in all my styles as far as instructions go.

Thanks for using the style and taking the time to leave your thoughts. It's very much appreciated.

I just wanted to mention some problems I've been facing with the style. It may be because I am using vBulletin Version 3.5.4.

The sub-forum icon doesn't change to "read" until all the threads in the sub forum have been read. This doesn't actually occur until the sub-forum has been visited two more times after all the threads have been read.

The main forum's "read" icon doesn't change until all the main forum's threads have been read. This doesn't actually occur until the forum has been visited two more times after all the threads have been read.

Threads are not considered to be "read" until the last page of the thread has been read.

Could this be due to the fact that the newreply, showthread and / or newthread templates supplied with the theme are for older versions of vbulletin?

My forum members rave over the style, but some have been voicing concern of this issue. I'm sure it's an easy fix. It would also be good to make the fix future proof in case I have to do an upgrade.

I could be mistaken, but the results seem consistent.

The images won't change the way your board handles read and unread forums. I would bring this up in the vb.com section and get some help there. It sounds like a vb behavioural issue, not a theme problem, since changing images doesn't decide how your board handles the user's cookies.

You probably just have to change a setting or so.

I have no internet at my house right now, and limited time to boot. But my plans are to release a limited psd/fireworks png that would allow you to change the language of the buttons, but I have no intention of releasing a full gdk to the public.

The space for the copyright is a little tight. If you change the year to 2006, then you will have the room.

The font is known as "coolvetica", but it was edited by me to have the star in the O.

I noticed that on the demo site at www.neeto.org that this style is also working with vbAdvanced.

However, when I install it, not all the images are showing on the homepage and it is messed up.

How do I fix it?

Bad Bunny
05-27-2006, 03:52 PM
I installed it using the standard instructions with vbadvanced (full image paths, etc). A couple of specific vbadvanced images are not included in the style, which is intentional.

Pretty sweet style man! Thanks for putting it out there. I have some probably stupid config questions about it though. First off, I'm running my vBulletin on a subdomain (http://forum.cheesefrog.com) while my copy of vBadvanced sits on http://www.cheesefrog.com. Both have different document root -- I'm not sure if that's what's causing the weirdness. But anyway what I'm seeing is that on the forum.cheesefrog.com/xxxxx.php, the Portal/Home/Gallery link tabs at the top all point to forum.cheesefrog.com/xxxxx.php. But the same links on www.cheesefrog.com all point to www.cheesefrog.com. Short of hard-coding the links, what can I do so that the links in the message board point to www.cheesefrog.com/xxxxx.php instead?

Bad Bunny
06-03-2006, 05:01 PM
Well, I would say hardcode the three links at the top. You could make your own replacement variables for the paths, but it seems like more work than it's worth.

Is there a specific reason you are against hardcoding the links?

I noticed you are using the images I made for the style but not the style. You also have a credit link to someone else, which sort of implies that I didn't make the images. Would have been nice if you had asked before you decided to use my images and credit someone else.

I think I brought this up in the file you were supposed to read. Check it out and if you are still confused I will help you out. :) I basically made it so the administrator can configure it to show or not. It is automatically selected just hidden by default. If people wish to log out, they can log out.
