Kirsch
Fluid & Fixed

Thank you to everyone who've brought Kirsch as far as it is now.

Kirsch GIF Description
Many people have been having issues with the PNG version so I've released a GIF version. It will not look quite as sharp on high-end computers, but it will load a lot faster. That's all that truly matters in the long run.

Included in ZIP

All new GIF image files.
PSD for the banner.
PSDs for the buttons.
Fonts used for the banner.Kirsch PNG Description
Removed. Will no longer be updated.
This style was mainly created for FireFox and Opera users. It uses mostly PNG files as they show up much sharper. However, this style has been designed to work for IE users with the help of a released Extension. If you would like this style to work for IE users, you'll need to install a very fast plugin. It's quick and simple, and in my opinion, worth the extra ten seconds of your day.

This style has been ported to 3.6.x!

Jun 10, 2006

I have returned to continue providing support and I have also removed un-needed images in the style. Thank you for your patience. Support may slow down for the 3.5.4 version as I will be porting it over to 3.6.0. However, I'll do my best to make both work.
May 22, 2006

I will be unable to provide support for a couple weeks.
Apr 28, 2006

I have edited several areas in the header template, as well as tweak the css of several areas using the form css.
Apr 17, 2006

I have fixed a problem with the panel and panelsurround CSS areas where the background images were not repeating correctly. Updated as such in the GIF style only.
Removed the PNG version.
Apr 07, 2006

PNG will not be updated anymore. For instructions on converting to GIF, or for more information reguarding this comment, click here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=939720#post939720).
Mar 24, 2006

I've fixed the banner image in both versions. I have no idea why it was showing section02 as the header, but it's been updated to Kirsch again. Sorry about that. If you've already been using section02 and wish to use the Kirsch banner, download the new ZIP files or open the PSD that was included with your version.

Anyone else not getting the "editor" icons to go through. The directory seems to be wrong in the zip and contains the same files as the "buttons" dir. I found a place in the .xml file to revert it back to normal icons, but one or two are still not showing up right....???

evenmonkeys
01-13-2006, 06:03 AM
I'll look into this problem and fix it as soon as possible.

evenmonkeys
01-13-2006, 06:24 AM
Thank you for pointing that out. It's all fixed. However, there are steps to fixing this if you do not wish to download the ZIP file.

Step One
Copy all files from original images/editor folder to the images/kirsch/editor folder.

Step Two
Copy all files from original images/icons folder to the images/kirsch/icons folder.

Step Three
Rename images/kirsch/editor/email.gif to images/kirsch/editor/mail.gif

Step Four
Rename images/kirsch/editor/quote.gif to images/kirsch/editor/quo.gif

That's it!
You do not need to do this if you download the ZIP and re-upload the images. These four steps are necessary because of the PNG-type style. If anyone has any questions, let me know.

I am experiencing an issue with the "new thread" image. It is very squished and unfortunately i could not figure it out - by expertise does not go very far. Here is an image of what it looks like - it's weird b/c the "post reply" image displays just fine...

Look in the replacement variables for "newthread.gif". Make sure the replacement on the right says... newthread.png" width="110" height="26".

Look in the replacement variables for "newthread.gif". Make sure the replacement on the right says... newthread.png" width="110" height="26".

Yeah, that is just fine - looks exactly right. Even when i change the width and height in there it doesn't reflect the change on the page like it does for the reply.png - but it is definitely produce the correct image cause when i right click - view picture it shows the full newthread.png. Somewhere though it is getting commanded to output in 25x25. Know where that might be occuring at - of if there is something somewhere i should try to revert....

Thanks for your help!

evenmonkeys
01-26-2006, 05:30 PM
Well, the only two places it's going to do that is in the actual template or the replacement variable. Take a look in the FORUMDISPLAY template. Search for newthread.gif and see if you can find it in there. Maybe it specified itself as 25x25 in there. Though I have no idea how. It could also be occuring because of parents templates.

I also had a problem like that when I made it on my own site. There was no logical explination for why something was happening. I ended up hard-coding something I didn't want to. However, it made it work and it didn't really bother anything.

Let me know if that works for you. If not, I might be able to think of some other ideas.

MattKitchen
01-26-2006, 05:31 PM

I installed the style and it looks great. I am having a problem with the plug in though.

I created a new plugin, cut and pasted all the XML code in the "plugin PHP code" box and edited the path line. I have the hook location set to ajax start. The plugin is active.
The transparancy is not working.

Is there something I missed? I like this look and would really like to get it fully working. Thanks, Chris

Your hook location is incorrect. Your hook location needs to be global_complete. The plugin needs to be as follows:
$output = replacePngTags($output);
function replacePngTags($x,$img_path='images/kirsch/',$sizeMeth='scale',$inScript=FALSE){
$arr2=array();
// make sure that we are only replacing for the Windows versions of Internet

preg_match('/opera/i',$_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']))
return $x;

evenmonkeys

Actually, the top three lines of the plug-in needs to be this:

$output = replacePngTags($output);
function replacePngTags($x,$img_path='http://yoursite.com/images/kirsch/',$sizeMeth='scale',$inScript=FALSE){
$arr2=array();This is needed because certain modifications will not see the images folder correctly. So set the image location to http://yoursite.com/images/kirsch/.

I am truthfully stumped by this. I installed the CMPS on my test board along with my fluid style and did not have your problem. Honestly, I think it's a problem within one of your customized templates. Maybe even in one of your modules on your CMPS. I honestly don't know what the problem is. =\

So as of now, I'm not sure I can help you. However, I'll continue to poke around.

but I've got a little problem with your style:
When I enter forumdisplay I see this (http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kirschpaperclip9zs.jpg)...
normally there is a paperclip icon instead of the attachments text, so I found out that paperclip.png is missing, but paperclip.gif exists in your style folder... so paperclip.gif should be paperclip.png

Can someone tell me what I am missing?

My forum is looking for *png files in the /forum/images/kirsch/statusicon/ folder but there are two problems.

1. There is no "statusicon" folder in the "kirsch" folder.

2. There are no *png images to be found anywhere except for the spacer.png.

Where are all of the *png images? There should be a lot of them from what I can see.

(edit: I do have the buttons. An example of a missing png would be : /forum/images/kirsch/statusicon/thread_dot_hot.png)

(another edit: this is a great style BTW) :D

Go into your Styles & Templates and then into your Replacement Variables. Then delete every single replacement variable. Now upload the new images in the GIF version to your server. After that, delete all PNGs. That should fix everything.

dun get it ? :S replacement variables? im vbulletin noob dude,Haha. No problem. It's rather easy actually.

In your adminc, click on Styles & Templates. Then go to Style Manager. Then it's going to list your styles on the right side. Of the Kirsch style's drop down list option, select Replacement Variables. This is going to give you a list of about 50-60 variables. Check the delete option in every single one of them. After you've checked them all, click Save at the bottom of the page. This will remove them all.

After that, just make sure you have the new GIF images uploaded and it will all work. You can delete all of the PNG images off of your server as well. Let me know if this still doesn't help.

CoryHawk, make sure your images folder is located at forums/images/kirsch. That's the location for the kirsch directory. If that's correct, make sure the following images are in the misc folder: banner.jpg, banner_01.jpg, and banner_02.jpg. If those files exist in the misc folder and you're still having the problem, make sure the style is correctly pointing to it. You can do this by viewing the All Style Options. =D Let me know.

I have a folder called..

That all correct?

evenmonkeys
03-24-2006, 08:58 AM
Okay, your kirsch directory seems a bit off. Your directory should look this like:

For this case: www/forums/images/kirsch/misc
For the entire style: www/forums/images/kirsch

If you're trying to setup the style differently, just change the area where you specify the banner location to match your liking.

CoryHawk

I apologize... I misspoke.. The dir is correct. "www/forums/images/kirsch/misc" (where www is my ROOT web dir or public_html)

Still doesn't work.. if I add a word "Testing" in text before the <img src> tag in the header.. I can see the text just fine at the top.. but any img tags or jpgs don't show up :(

Ohhhh. I'm willing to bet you have a pop-up blocker that's blocking it. Images of a certain width and of certain type are blocked out by pop-up blockers. There are usually ways of allowing it to show.

evenmonkeys
03-27-2006, 02:25 AM
There is no need to make an image for your style. You seem to be the only person having this problem. I am not sure why your style is looking for paperclip.png as there is no png version of it. The editor directory was not touched whatsoever. I have looked over the newest versions and I am not coming across the same problem you are. Maybe it would be easiest for you to download the newer versions and overwrite the templates you're having problems with.

Ohhhh. It's because you didn't install the hack that's required.

Kirsch PNG Description
This style was mainly created for FireFox and Opera users. It uses mostly PNG files as they show up much sharper. However, this style has been designed to work for IE users with the help of a released Extension. If you would like this style to work for IE users, you'll need to install a very fast plugin. It's quick and simple, and in my opinion, worth the extra ten seconds of your day.

It may just be easier to switch to the GIF version. Most of your customized templates would be able to just overwrite any of the templates of the GIF style.

Otherwise, if you prefer the PNG style, the problem is probably where you set the location on the plug-in itself. I know it took me a few minutes to get it working. But yeah...

Starting April 7th, I will no longer be updating the PNG version of Kirsch. There are many reasons behind this, but the most obvious reason is that there have been far too many problems with people not knowing how to properly set it up. Rather than messing with that, I have decided that it'd be a lot easier to just work with the GIF style. I will still provide support for those of you using the PNG version, but I would strongly suggest updating to the GIF version.

If you're worried about losing template modifications, you are able to update from PNG to GIF fairly easily without uploading any XMLs. Do this by erasing all replacement variables within the Kirsch style, and by uploading the GIF image folder. There are also a couple templates inwhich you'll need to revert.

Those are as follows:
editor_toolbar_on
editor_toolbar_on
showthread_quickreply

I do not believe there are any other template. If anything looks strange though, let me know. =D

All the images display as they should.......

When I click on a forum it shows a cannot display page.
When I click on a TOPIC..... it goes to it no problem.

SO I went into the admin CP and found it had to be "REVERTED"........
I REVERTED the "SHOWTHREADS PART"....... and it said ALL TEMPLATES UP TO DATE.

REFRESHED / LOGGED OUT / LOGGED IN...... Still I cannot click on a board without a "404 page"
but I can click on a topic and it will go to it...... Im stumped.

wierd aint it..........

The GIF or PNG version? Either way, that shouldn't be a problem from Kirsch. Very few templates are modified. The only ones that did get modified were to change an image name or add in a global link. Would it be possible to provide screenshot(s) or a link to your website?

I'm not fully understanding your problem.

evenmonkeys
04-18-2006, 12:37 AM
You can do all of that from the All Style Options section within the Kirsch style via the Style Manager. To remedy the problem I fixed, go into the All Style Options and find the panel surround section.

Replace the background field with:#D5D8E5 url(images/kirsch/gradients/gradient_panelsurround.jpg) repeat

In the next section below (Panel), replace the background field with:#E4E7F5 url(images/kirsch/gradients/gradient_panel.jpg) repeat

As for the header and footer, they'll use various classes so I can't really specify exactly what to change. The header and footer templates are located at the top of the All Style Options page. If you have any specific requests, I can probably help ya with them.

Have you always had this problem? I think I might know why it's doing that, but I'd have to take a look at it. Have you recently upgraded to one of my newer versions? If so, it might be because of a hack I installed before downloaded the XML. If so, my mistake. I can fix that.

If not, can you tell me how long you've had it like that?

Your second post: It should be in navbar. There should just be a " <br /> " or something toward the bottom that you can remove.

Well, just as a side note, that's not a cosmetic error. Andrew originally planned to have it that way. In any case, I can tell you how to remove it.

In FORUMDISPLAY find: <td class="thead">&nbsp;</td>
<td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>Replace that with: <td colspan="2" class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>

As I said, it's not how it was meant to be designed; and that's how it is on the regular default vBulletin style. With the second column for post icons, it would make it look weird. But yeah- I'm more than willing to link to my fix for it via the first post, but you're the first person to bring it up. It would seem that others are happy with the initial look. Anyways, I'm having an issue making it work. It involves three different templates and I'm already tired enough as it is. Heheh. I'll let ya know when I get it working right.

No, you're right. However, they're not suppose to be like that on the styles because when you enable post icons, it adds in another column to the right. Right now, it looks like this (x=alt1, o=alt2):

X XXXXXXXXXXXXXX O X O

Now if you enable post icons, it looks like this:

XO XXXXXXXXXXXXX O X O

Now do you see what I'm saying? It's setup so that it DOES alternate, but only if you have post icons enabled. That being said, it's tricky to change it around now. The forumhome does not have post icons.

They were shown to represent the alternate colors used. I've attached two images to my post. They are showing what I am talking about with the X's and O's. In the first picture, you'll see that the first column and the second column are the same color. The second picture shows why they are the same color. When you allow post icons, it puts a column between them that is not the same color.

The subforum image still links to the png instead of the gif.
misc/gmore.gif does not exist.

Somehow certain gifs, which are present on the server, do not show up in vBadvanced. Note that my vBadvanced is in www.mysite.com/ while my forum is in www.mysite.com/forum/
Sections of my site which integrate vBadvanced located in www.mysite.com/forum do display the images correctly.
Try reverting the following templates.

forumhome_subforumbit_post
forumhome_subforumbit_nopost
forumhome_subforumseparator_post
forumhome_subforumseparator_nopost

That'll fix the png/gif error. As for the vBadanced part of it, I'm not really sure how to fix it. Did you change all image locations to http://website.com/images/kirsch/whatever? If so, I'll try to think of some other solutions.

What do you mean with reverting these templates?

When you're in the Styles & Templates section of the adminCP, go to Edit Templates of the drop-down list on Kirsch. Then double-click FORUMHOME. Then click the following templates just once so that you don't open it. On the right side, there should be a revert button. Click that for each of the templates.

forumhome_subforumbit_post
forumhome_subforumbit_nopost
forumhome_subforumseparator_post
forumhome_subforumseparator_nopost

That certainly did good.

I have photopost installed. Everything works great there except this vbulletin navbar button:
www.mysite.com/photopost/images/kirsch/misc/menu_open.gif and this one:
www.mysite.com/photopost/images/kirsch/misc/navbits_start.gif
This directory does not exist, but kirsch is referring to it:
www.mysite.com/photopost/images/kirsch/

vBadvanced doesn't show:
the collapse_tcat.gif because it points to:
http://www.mysite.com/images/kirsch/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif
instead of:
http://www.mysite.com/forum/images/kirsch/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif

The same goes for all images in the kirsch folder.

I think that's actually more involving those modifications themselves. The modifications usually have instructions telling you to put the full path to the image files in the "All Style Options" of the Styles & Templates section of the adminCP. I don't have either of those modifications on my board so I wouldn't really know how to fix them. I'd say get ahold of the creators of those modifications and see if they can tell you how to make them work with their projects. I'll try to toy around with them though.

I dunno. We're not big fans of the whole color changing thing. We prefer that it looks the same, and make the user look at the date. =D

WoW! I have totally fallen in love with this style. Well done, Yarub, well done indeed. Awesome. Im just.. wow..
Thank you so much for making this public! Do you take donations through paypal? Send me some info on pm if you do, please.

I really appreciate the offer, but I have released it free of charge for a reason. I'm glad to see that so many people enjoy the style. I cannot take all credit either as Andrew is the designer of the template. I just make it work and keep it updated with each vBulletin upgrade. In any case, I trust you'll continue to enjoy the style. Also note that a 3.6.0 version has also been released if you upgrade. Thanks for the comments. =D

Have you found a solution while toying around with them? I have not been able to fix this.

I am unable to fix it. I'd say get ahold of the creators of the hacks. Do you know where the browser is trying to locate the images? Are you able to right click on the broken image and see where it's looking for it? If so, that might help you as well. Otherwise, I don't know how to help ya.

I love this style but I was wondering that what would be the appropriate place to place ads on this style.

evenmonkeys

Probably just below or just above the navbar. It'd probably be good to put one below the Kirsch copyright on the bottom.

If you look at this image: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=40632&d=1136675617

The member info is on the left side. When I install the skin, that info goes on the top of the post.

Is there any way I can fx it?

I can't see the top banner / background if I run Firefox, but in IE it works fine. Is this a known problem? (thanks for a nice style btw :))

You probably have a pop-up blocker that's looking for banners around that size. If you're able to specifically allow that image, that would fix it. Otherwise, nothing I can really do about that.

I don't run any popup blockers at all, and I didn't get any messages about anything being blocked. Ah well :)

None of the links work on the drop down when you click a users name. Any way I can make a quick fix to get it working?
