Hey all,
What is Global Announcements?
This is a modification that adds an announcement to every vB page. It's simple to use and install.
What can I do using Global Announcements?
The features of Global Announcements include:
Online / Offline - The ability to turn your announcement Online or Offline.
Set Announcement Title - The ability to change the title of your announcement.
Set Announcement Text - The ability to change the text of which your announcement contains.
HTML Ready - Has the ability to use HTML in both Title and text!
How long will it take me to install Global Announcements?
Global Announcements is a very easy modification to install. It should take no more than 1 minute to install! It comes with a product file, so all you have to do is import the included product file, edit one template and the modification is installed!

Can you specify where you place the announcement?
Nice idea ;)
Marky

Sorry the announcement is placed Below the navbar and vB welcome section.
I have added an extra attachment so it is easier to see what this modification does :)
I also forgot to mention, the Global Announcement (Title and Text) Can both use html :)

Make sure you place the navbar edit right at the bottom. I.e. make sure there isn't anything underneath the global announcement code.
EDIT: Also make sure you actually have something in the announcements text box :)

Just installed it myself again, and it works fine.
http://www.mgarcade.com/forum/index.php?
I'll leave the announcement up there for a while so people can check it out :)
It seems your 'Latest News' mod you have installed is trying to share a table with the Global Announcement mod =\
If you'd like I could take a look at your template via your AdminCP. I've PM'd you my msn, if your interested in me taking a look ;)

Marky,
Nice job on the update. Flawless. Works great. The color changes most definitely bring attention to it.
Just one suggestion however, for those of us who have multiple styles. Any way of having the global announcement bar call to the vb css colors (as before), via the admin cp, and not through the navbar coding? I like the idea of keeping my Global Announcements coding the same as the other parts of the vb pages.
Thanks

Current features I have planned for this version is;

No many features as you can see, so if you have any suggestions, please post them, so I can include them in my next version ;)

Sorry about the wait gamebgs - I've been super busy with the menu control mod im working on, and keeping MgArcade alive and kicking - plus school - just one big juggle ;)
I've not tested yet, but will do if you still wish me too.
You may test it yourself, it's pretty easy to uninstall. Just delete the text you added in the navbar template and choose uninstall on the product menu :)

I've created an option to include a link to the title of your announcement, and also an option to turn on and off, a 'More...' link, which will link to the same link as the title and will appear at the end of your announcement should you want to include more.
I must now create the option to turn the link on and off, and also create the page in which you can re-direct to include the 'more' announcement :)
But I must dash now, so I'll release it when it's finished tommorow ;)

Looks good, I plan on installing this after moving my board to a new host. I've got a suggestion. How about an option to automatically create a thread in a specified forum when you post an announcement? If the option is selected, you specify the forum, a thread is created with the same title and contents as the announcement and the announcement automatically contains a link to the thread.

What about this in reverse.... post in a specified forum and it shows up in the global announcement... this way you could allow admin's, moderators, or whatever you set your posting rules to be... toeasily make an announcement without going into the admin panel..... ?

The result being that different usergroups see different announcements. :)

Installed on my test board, looks great. Noticed a minor issue, in the admincp settings page, the description for the field where you set the color of the body text says "Choose the colour of your announcement title." Same goes for the alignment. Both say "title" instead of one "title" and one "text".

Do you want your Announcement online?
Yes = Online
No = Offline < I did choose No there and it still displays, but only way to stop this from appearing is to remove any text inside the box, can you update me where I might have gone wrong, I followed exactly as you said though.

Are you making a fresh install or upgrading from an older version?
If your upgrading, try uninstalling your old version and re-installing the modification by using the fresh install product of version 1.2
I figured it out. Works great, man. Thanks!

Installed and working, but I have 1 suggestion, and 1 question.
Suggestion, BB code compatible, it's nice that HTML works, but still, BB code would be nice too.
Question, Is there a reason it doesn't display on a vBAdvanced home page? I tried directly editing the vBAdvanced templates with the $globalannounce and it's as if it doesn't exist no matter where I put it (even though I shouldn't have to since it's in the NavBar).
Any idea?

I figured it out...
Anyone that wants to add these announcements to the vBa home page, open up includes/vba_cmps_include_bottom.php
Toward the bottom of the script find:
global $pages, $stylevar, $headinclude, $header, $footer, $vbulletin, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $show, $pmbox, $vba_options, $vba_style, $navbar, $cusid, $_REQUEST, $gobutton, $pagetitle, $pagecache, $db;
Add:
, $globalannounce
after the last entry, and before the ;
So it should look like:
global $pages, $stylevar, $headinclude, $header, $footer, $vbulletin, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $show, $pmbox, $vba_options, $vba_style, $navbar, $cusid, $_REQUEST, $gobutton, $pagetitle, $pagecache, $db, $globalannounce;

Hey,
This is really awesome. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
I've installed it to test it however there is one thing keeping me from using it "out of the box".. Could you change the admincp values in the next version for the font colors to work with multiple skins? If I set a color scheme for one skin, it looks absolutely horrible for other skins (unless they are all bright or all dark skins)...
The only workaround right now is to edit the globalannouncement template in each of the skins I'm running (about 5-6) and I'd rather not do that..
EDIT: It was also mentioned here -> https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=868105&postcount=27 to which you said you'd look into it. Hope that's still on the 'ol to-do list!

([url*]|[*/url]) is a BBCode Tag - and Global Announcements does not - yet - have BBCode support.
If you wanted a link that was bold it must be written like this:
<b><a href="http://www.testlink.com">Test link</a></b>
My new site will contain a lot of new html tutorials - so hopefully this will be helpful for this modification :)
Hope this helps,

Yeah, it works fine on 3.5.4. All I need is support for multiple styles instead of setting one color display in Global Announcements admincp for each of the skins because I have light and dark styles.
Then it'd be a perfect addition for me. I hope to see this ability in the future.

This is possible. All you must do is enter the correct marquee code into the message box.
<marquee direction="up" scrolldelay="100" scrollamount="2" style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10px">Test Marquee Text</marquee>
If you put that into the message box - it should work, although I've not tested it. You could edit the points to modify it further, for example puting scrolldelay to 10 would speed the marquee up :)
Hope this helps :)

I feel that because it doesn't have too many options it's best to keep the options in there. Also I think you must use FTP access to do that, I like to keep my modifications clean and really simple to install.

Does everything I need except it does not have an option to allow me to select whether to display globally or just on forumhome. Sometimes that can be very handy depending on what type of announcement you are making. No big deal but thought I would mention it for future consideration.

Collapsibility would be extremely nice to an already extremely nice hack. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2007/03/4.gif

Great ! Works OK.
My personal addition: if you want to restrict announcements only to registered users, place $globalannounce on "Navbar" template inside a <IF> block, like this:
<if condition="$show['member'])">
$globalannounce
</if>

I dont think it's that simple, I think it wouldn't work with custom groups but Im looking into it now and hopefully it'll appear next version.

Thanks for this.
I have also used the "if" conditional.
$header
$navbar
<if condition="$show['guest']">
$globalannounce
</if>
I did this as I need to tell unregistered users some info. It works a treat.

Good Day,
vBulletin Village Idiot here... :)
I just found this mod and it is great. I think it will really help disseminate information to my Players/Writers.
I only have one question...so far...
Could you provide very simple (i.e. dumbed down for the VB Village Idiot) on how to change the title bar to match the gradients on the rest of my board (I hope I used the right terminology). Mostly, I hope, it would be a "where" to go to put the image link in.
Thank you and Regards,
Alisa

I would be doubtful if any 3.5 add-on ran on 4.2.
