Hi All.

I have accumulated a ton of information I'd like to dispense using a "Today in History" feature but I can't find a TIH module. Does anyone have one? Currently running VB 3.5.2.

Thanks!
Dan

Best thing to do is to use the vb calendar. You can create a new calendar just for these and there are a few mods out there to call up a list on the forum home or elsewhere.

The trick is importing the list you have into the calendar.

Thanks Reeve.

Here's an example that I want to do:

http://www.disneylinks.ca/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&c=1&day=2006-1-5

I want to display each entry I put January 5, no matter what year, on every January 5. Could I copy and modify birthday.php and call it say, "todayinhistory.php" and place that on my vBadvanced portal page? (BTW, there's an issue with this I hope they're working on).

Hasn't someone written something like this already?

What about Ephmerids (sp?) - this is an addon to vbportal I believe for older versions - not sure about current.

Thanks, I've done some research on Ephemerids and it looks like it will do what I want it to do, but how do I get it to display in a box on my portal page? (http://www.disneylinks.ca/forums/cmps_index.php) Note, this page isn't live yet, as I'm still working on it, but it does work fine. I'm all new at this, so was just wondering if phpPortal and PostNuke stuff will run with my vBulletin setup before I invest anymore time in this... thanks for any info.

Probably wouldn't be too hard as long as you had the code.

I swear a couple days ago I thought this would be a good product for me to do. I couldn't find a TIH mod either. Maybe I can try to crank out a beta next week.

Create it as a holiday, that should ensure it shows up every Jan 5th, etc.

Almost done! So far, ver 1 will have:

Unlimited categories with sub-categories
Control how many events appear per page
WYSIWYG interface to add new events
Search of existing events
Permissions by usergroup
Ability to select day of choice

Here are a few screenshots:

Now, I need a name! I was going to go with HistoryToday but I'm afraid that my sound to exclusive. The mod could be used for joke of the day, famous quote of the day, Today in Sports, etc.

So ... I need name suggestions!

Looks great, but, considering the fact that "history" goes back quite a bit, and, with all those days in a year, it's going to be a nightmare inputting all of that data. Are there any databases out there with this information, and will you be able to "upload" said databases into this program??

Just a thought.

Great idea. I'll include a feature in the first release to load a delimited data file into the db.
