Flickr / del.ico.us style Tags for threads

It would be really great if someone created a hack that allowed users to tag threads with words that they represent. We have a general forum that has threads from various topic points that don't justify their own sub directories. So being able to search or see new posts from threads with a special tag would rule.

Also tags are more web 2.0-centric, and vb is starting to feel kind of out of step with the features and usability demonstrated on flickr and social software type sites. :ermm:

a quick an easy way would be to create new posticon graphics that contain words eg. "General", "Music", "Politics", "Tech", etc

granted, you will not be able to search for the "tag" as you requested
