Hi
Preventing bumping threads by making replys to own threads part of the original thread is a bad Idea especialy in a big community such as this.
Sometimes it takes less then an hour till your fresh started thread moves to the second page into the nirvana.
After a few days and only 5-6 views total because of beeing on page 3-6 I think it needs the possibility to bump/reply to own threads.
If this is prevented users will start to create duplicated threads.

this was debated many times...
if your thread have only 3 or 4 views, even if you can bump it, it will have 3 or 4 views... don't think that if you bump a thread it will become important to all...

If threads move to second page within an hour there is not much time for others to even see that it exists.

there will always have situations where people complain on how the forum is ruled anyway... the best thing is to have your own forum, managed your way... by that, you will not have any complains to do...
this site have rules for everyone, not for a single entity... there is actually 109,284 users on this site, and the guys here can't make rules for each other... they had to decide what was the best way to compromise, and i think this one is good...

After 24 hours it is possible to bump your threads, however, that does not give you the permission to continually bump threads...

And if you would bump your thread as soon as it goes off page 1, this will mean that by bumping yours, you would kick someone else to page 2. In return this person will ofcourse bump his thread..............
We would end up with a board filled up with 'bumping posts'.
No thanks. 24 hour limit seems the best solution.
PS What makes you think that your thread is so important compaired to others that it should stay on page 1 and others could fall off??

Holy cow folks, the dude just wants his post to have an opportunity to be read rather than being "down-bumped" into oblivion.
I don't read that Starbug is saying his thread is more important, only that the current system fails with the volume of new threads in some forums.
Sorry for butting in, but it seems like the more I read the site feedback forum, the more I see posters jumping on staff and staff jumping on posters and posters jumping on posters and so on and so forth.
Have a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year all.

I don't read that Starbug is saying his thread is more important, only that the current system fails with the volume of new threads in some forums.Try reading his post again then.
Because by complaining about the fact that his thread falls to the 2nd page, he is in fact saying that other threads deserve to be there instead, unless you want bump haven like Marco said. Which, btw, if were to happen would cause me to leave. As it would many others.
Yes the system has flaws. But as the saying goes, "the needs of the many must outweigh the needs of the few". I do believe that many more find bumping annoying than find the automerge annoying. The only reason it seems different is because the most ignorant of the anti-automergers post threads like this, thus making it seem like a huge amount of the population wants this gone.
And don't think that I never get the drawbacks imposed on me. I had an idea to create a "Version Map" thread in my RPG subforum here to have info on the different versions, but I lost interest due to the fact that my doubleposts got merged.
Still I can sit here and call people who complain about the doubleposting ignorant and self-centered due to the fact that I know how bad the alternative is.

I did not know that replying to own threads is possible after 24h
that is absolutly sufficient.
I just noticed the change so I made this thread
I am no spam kid nor a person who thinks his posts are more important then others.
And i did not like the tone of some persons replying here by the way.
So thx for the info about the 24h
For my part this thread can be closed.
