Hi all

Someone asked me about making a fantasy league system.
I am thinking on making this but i would like to know how many people would like this to be made too.

Please vote on this poll so i can find out how many of you would like this to be made.

I voted yes but what would the hack consist of?

Why, yes I do. Take a look at the ladder / league / tournament system at www.GameBattles.com. They have thee best system on the internet. I guarantee you'd never find a system better than that. I'd give my left arm for something like that.

I think you have the wrong idea on what this will do here is a site that might help you understand http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1

This is not a league system for running a gaming league but a fantasy league where your members will pick 1 player from each group and the winners from each group are picked automaticly and the results will be posted.

Say you want to run a F1 racing fantasy league there would be 6 to 8 groups made by the admin and you would have to choose one player from each group for your team.
Now that you have your players for your team it comes to the race this will be done by a cron job on your forum.
This will randomly pick the winners for each group and if you have picked right your score high if you have picked wrong you will score low.

Do a search on google for fantasy league systems and you will find out more about this.

I would love to have something like this on my site, my members are asking for this on a daily basis, something like this could be used for football, baseball, any sport you can think of, I need it for Nascar :) Hope this is finished before Feb. 19, the season starts than.

Please if you make it, do it a standalone like you did for vbleague. I am still under 3.07
That would be super for the upcoming soccer world cup (and other soccer events)

Vbleague is not a standalone product it uses vbulletin.
the pro version will use vbulletin alot more.

When i make hacks i will also make them for 3.07 upto the newest version of vbulletin.
But all may hacks would start out as 3.5.1 at this time and be converted to 3.07 and up.
I will try my best to make it so all vbulletin forum versions can use my hacks.

cool. By standalone I meant no files changes except for admin link and who's online. I installed the beta version, did a couple of minor fixes and it looks good overall.

When i make a hack i try to make it so there is as little file edits as i can.
This makes it as easy for everyone to install my hacks.

I will post more on the progress of the fantasy league system when i have sorted a few things out.

I just want to say I'm interested also.

I was just recently looking into having some software built, not for VB but as a standalone. But this would be great.

Since I was just researching this, something I must point out is that to buy stats to use with the software can be highly expensive. For example, to get LIVE stats for the NFL season it costs upwards of $20,000. Unless you enter your stats by hand, there may not be an affordable solution.

PM or e-mail me if you have questions about the stats.

Hi there

I see what you are saying but the admin would click on the winning player to update there stats so it would look some thing like this in the view players bets in admincp.

Players name | choosen team | 1st place | 2nd place | 3rd place | and so on to the 10th place

Then in the 1st place the admin would see a button to click to give that player the over all win.

So in affect yes the admin will be doing it manuly but only clicking one button and it will update all the stats to that player.

Like you said to have it do it all automaticly would be alot of money so this is the next best thing.

If anyone has any ideas on how this can be done please post them here and ill see what i can do on it.

Mike

Have you done anything at all with fantasy league?
I have just finalized a soccer predictions hack that can be seen here (http://www.haitiwebs.com/haitianforums/soccerpredictions.php?do=winners) and here (http://www.haitiwebs.com/haitianforums/interschedule.php?cupid=0009)

And I was about to do my own soccer fantasy using most of the points distribution system of predictions. If you started to do your fantasy, I had rather wait.

Only to those who know php as it has many prerequisites in addition to my code.
It's not phrased, has no prefixes, and is not documented, and I will not be able to support it (lack of time).

I have started it but have not done much yet as i have vbleague pro to finish.
I like what you have there
I will be starting on the fantasy league system again within the next few weeks when vbleague pro is done.

For American Football, there is a great script (open source on Freshmeat) that fetches the players from NFL and uses cron to update results. If you want I could dig up for the link. Worst case scenario, I had installed it on my site to study a little, so I could always send you a zip. Me I have no use for it as I focus solely on soccer and have my own pool of players to select from.

Mike check this site out: http://www.xmlteam.com/fod/

It's a place to get stats on demand and is reasonably priced.

I think for the fantasy league, we need to think a little smaller in terms of what it will do. If it's a full blown league with a bunch of different categories for stats, then it's going to be harder to manually enter stats.

For example: With fantasy football you can go crazy with all different stats and what not, but if kept simple, it wouldn't be too hard to have a few moderators update it after the games.

Let's say for example for this fantasy football league, and we only count Touch Downs and Yards.

Example scoring:

Positions to Score: (QB, RB, TE, WR)

Everyone receives, 4 pts for a thrown touchdown, and 6 points for a running touch down.

Everyone receives 1 point for every 20 yards thrown.
Everyone recieves 1 point for every 10 yards rushing or receving.

Now after each game, a moderator will look at the Box Scores from ESPN or where ever, and plug in the TD's, and Yards for each player.

example: Peyton Manning - 300 Yards Throwing, 5 yards rushing, 3 TD's.

So I enter those three values into the system, and it cacualtes is as 33 points.

That wouldn't be too difficult to manage. Like I said, as long as you have some moderators who can help enter in those values every day/week, whatever it may be, it would work fine.

The site I posted above could give us the rosters, and that would be half the battle.

Hi there m8

There is a way to have this automaticly run.
But it means that i would have to have someone update all the stats every week for it.
Then when you have payed for your fantasy league system or the free version you will have to buy access to the xml file that would be on my site to update your league stats.
This will take me a bit of time to work out but i will sort it out and make it as cheap as i can for the free version and the pro version of the fantasy league system.

Will keep you posted on whats going on.

Thats nice that you would pay to have this by april,
But this is not posible as there is alot to this.
If i was to make this by april it would have to be updated by the admin of the site not with the auto system i would like to put in.

So if you dont mind updating the stats yourself then i will get onto it and sort it.
But i would think most people would want it to be auto done.

If it was not auto done the admin of the site would have to get the results of the race or what every they are using this for and enter in the info manuly.
Then run the update script to update all the players stats.

If i made the auto system you would only need to click the update stats and it would pull the info for that race from my site.

This is up to you i will make it any way people want it.

The thing with the auto system i would have to charge for the use of it.

Will let you know more on this soon

I have no problem entering the stats to start off. We did vBookie last year, and that was all manual. Would just like to get it going for the first race, sounds like a fun system.

Let me know how things progress, would still kick in a donation for your time.

I would pay for the service though too.

What stats do you need to show on this and how do you want your members to choose racing teams and how many they can choose.

Now your gonna make me think?

I'm not sure how these systems work... Would you just use the Regular point System that Champ Car uses? Poles, Wins, Laps lead kinda thing...

As far as teams go, is it salary based? Like We could have a certain dollar figure to work with and give each driver a price?

Does that sound right?

Does this help?

Finishing Position Points Earned
1 31
2 27
3 25
4 23
5 21
6 19
7 17
8 15
9 13
10 11
11 10
12 9
13 8
14 7
15 6
16 5
17 4
18 3
19 2
20 1
In addition, points will be awarded to qualifier(s) as follows: At road course
events, one (1) point will be awarded to the fastest qualifier in the first event
day qualifying session and one (1) point will be awarded to the fastest qualifier
in the second event day qualifying session. At oval events, one (1) point will be
awarded to the fastest qualifier. These points will be awarded at the conclusion
of qualifying and are not contingent on the position of the entrant in the starting
line-up. These points will not be awarded in cases where qualifying is not held.
One (1) point will be awarded to the driver with fastest race lap. One (1) point
will also be awarded to each driver that leads one or more laps. One (1) point
will be awarded to the driver who gains the most positions from their grid
position to finishing position.

I am really not familier with Fantasy admin, but here is how I would guess it works.

All users would be given a certain dollar amount to start with.

Each Driver would be given a contract value.

So your team could be 1 expensive driver or multiple cheaper drivers, or any combination, maybe force them to have at least a 2 driver team.

Folks would by there drivers and we would input the results of each race.

The system would calculate the points earned per position+ bonus points and pay out to the various teams.

From the admin side, i would guess we would, at the start of the season, input the points for each finishing position and bonus awards. Then, for a race weekend, assign the pole, finishing position, most laps lead.... via drop down menus for each driver.

Then the system could calculate the payouts to the teams when we submit...

Am I thinking right?

I run that hack on my forums too, and parse all the info from this guys site. His script is awesome and its part of the script to parse the real time info and updating of the database from his site. I dont know how he does it but would be brilliant if you could incorporate the scores etc for the different leagues like he does so it auto updates.

This would reduce the amount of manual input for the admins as well!!

Nail on the head M8. I've got a pickem application and Fantasy Football application that I integrated into my site, but to actually release them as hacks here would require a ton of work that I have no desire to do for free. I don't really have the desire to do it as a paid request either. The support itself would be a major headache to deal with. Maybe some day I will hit the lotto and won't have to work and can just play and write hacks lol

Thats probably one of many systems that members would be after.

Sports Pool aka Pickem (not like the one in the casino hack), but one that is an actual league that keeps track of scores from week to week)..
Fantasy Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, NASCAR etc.. (like on Yahoo, ESPN, CBS Sports etc)
Survivor Pool

is this like all your other mods where the beta tester has the files and then u go quiet and when people start hassling you claim he found errors and your working on fixing?

No,
the betatester has got the files and as soon as he says every thing is ok it will be released.

No real use discussing this when it is not ready yet.

Please resume the discussion once this has been released in the release thread.

Closing.
