This extension will allow you to add sponsors to you forums and categories. You can also track the hits to each sponsor by date as well. See below for more features.

Since categories behave like forums, you follow the same steps in the readme. Only instead of choosing "Edit Forum" next to the forum name, you choose "Edit Forum" next to the category. The template changes are teh same regardless. Hopefully that makes sense to you.

After you click "Edit Forum" (under Forum Manager in the Admin CP), you will see the option to enter the information towards the bottom of the forum options.

MySQL Error : Unknown column 'forum_id' in 'field list'


It looks like you will need to completely uninstall the product and reinstall it. It didn't create the forum_id column correctly on the upgrade (likely my issue). I will work to correct the upgrade procedure.

you did a great approach there. Love this idea and surely will implement it after holidays. I hope you will keep it in development and add further features. I'm just implementing some more sponsoring-features and this one will surely be loved by the sponsors.

Did you think about placing another sponsor image or text inside the forums? Would be good to have it additionally on top or bottom of the forumdisplay page or in the threads.

Database error in vBulletin 3.5.2:

It looks the columns didn't get added to the _forum table. Did you receive any errors when installing this? Do you have access to your database via phpMyAdmin (or some other tool)? If so, check the _forum table structure to see if it created the columns. You will need access to create & modify tables with the account used by vBulletin.

Try uninstalling the product and reinstalling. When reinstalling, be sure to choose Allow Overwrite. Make sure you are using the latest version (posted here).

it looks like its missing...

Also, I donno if there are normal but within the forum table there coulums called...

Im pretty sure I dont have any simular hacks installed, although about two years ago I had a simular kind of hack installed. Should I remove those coulums? EDIT: I removed them and didnt seem to help.

vB.Sponsors should contain the following columns:
id
sponsor_name
forum_id
forum
date

So that one looks OK.

_forum should have the following added to it:
sponsor_enabled
sponsor_banner_enabled
sponsor_name
sponsor_banner
sponsor_url

I'm not sure what the other columns are, but they aren't mine. ;) If the old hack you had isn't in use, I would drop those columns. Try dropping those columns, uninstalling, verifying everything is gone from the table _forum and reinstalling.

Let me know if this works for you. If it still doesn't create the columns, I'll post up the manual SQL you can try.

Yeah i updated and changed the link to one of my other sites as i still dont know how to remove phases only edit them lol, but its cool. I guess its just more sponsorship for that site :D

So if your forum is in fact thatguy.com, its appearing correctly. You do not need to add the actual URL after the sponsor's name. In fact, I would suggest you not do that. Its more beneficial to use the link generated by vB.Sponsors as it tracks the hits.

So http://www.teammightyminiz.com/forum is your site, correct?

From what I can tell, the directory /vB.Sponsors doesn't exist on that server. You did upload the items in the zip file to the server, correct? Also be sure the case is EXACTLY the same. Linux/Unix servers are sensitive to case (e.g. - vB is not equal to vb). So to recap, the vB.Sponsors directory should be uploaded to http://www.teammightyminiz.com/forum/vB.Sponsors/ .

If your testing it one specific forum, it will always be that forum's id (from vBulletin). It won't change the link the users click on. Only the site they are redirected to. The only time the "f=" part changes is when its a different forum/category.

The path you entered on line 27 isn't correct. It should point to the root of your forum. Example:

The trailing slash is important.

I just got MySQL 5.0 installed. The only issue I ran into was that I didn't specify a default value for some of the values. I've updated the zip file.

Try this (replace prefix with your table prefix):
First, drop the columns:
ALTER TABLE `PREFIX_forum` DROP `sponsor_enabled` ,
DROP `sponsor_banner_enabled` ,
DROP `sponsor_name` ,
DROP `sponsor_banner` ,
DROP `sponsor_url` ;

Now manually add the tables back:
ALTER TABLE `PREFIX_forum` ADD (sponsor_enabled INT(6) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0');
ALTER TABLE `PREFIX_forum` ADD (sponsor_banner_enabled INT(6) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0');
ALTER TABLE `PREFIX_forum` ADD (sponsor_name VARCHAR(250) NOT NULL DEFAULT '');

I've attached a file called settings-check.php. Upload this to the vB.Sponsors directory on your server. Run the file. It will show you what the forum directory should be. Enter this on line 27 of link.php. Remember to delete the file from your server when you're done with it.

This file is now included in the zip package to help with the installation.

Uninstall via product manager, download the latest version, upload new files (overwriting old ones) and reinstall via product manager. Make sure you edit the link.php again (since it will be overwritten).

for you it is an upgrade.. and for me it is a fresh install.. didn't know about this from before...

don't know why is it happening.. but everything went smooth while installing.. no errors .. no nothing..

The file, settings-check.php, in the do not upload directory can find this path for you. Upload it to the vB.Sponsors directory on your web server and access it directly (i.e. - www.pbontario.com/forums/vB.Sponsors/settings-check.php). DELETE this file after you're done.

While in the middle of installing and editing the 1.02 version I got the email for the new one 1.03. So I installed that version. The main problem now seems to be that its not saving the settings for vB.Sponsors. For further testing, I went and edited the forumhome templates to assume the sponsors are always enabled and it worked fine.

Also, for lawahdy .. Mannak lawahdak, I got the same error when checking statistics :)

i did a reinstall, uninstall - reinstall, complete remove of even template changes and files and reinstall... nothing.. same problems..

Only if I can get the templates to add. Modifying them and when I click save.. it just sits there. I see the bar moving at the bottom as it is trying to save, but it never goes to the next screen.

It happens when I add it to the "forumhome_forumbit_level1_post" template. But when I remove that part of the code, it saves fine.

Double check your template code, the forum sponsor settings (in Forum Manager) and the vB.Sponsors settings (in vB.Sponsors Manager) to make sure banners are enabled. Also double check the URL you entered for the banner image.

From the error, I'd say the path you entered on line 27 of link.php is incorrect. There is a directory called do not upload. If you look in there you will find a file called settings-check.php. Upload this to the vB.Sponsors directory on your server. Access the file directly from a web browser (i.e. - http://www.yoursite.com/forum/vB.Sponsors/settings-check.php). This will show you the correct path to enter on line 27.

Double check your template code. That would be the most likely cause. Also, the URL for the sponsor should always begin with http://.

The ultimate addition to this pack which would make it a truly revolutionary addition is if you allow any registered user to purchase sponsorship of a given forum using the paid subscriptions functionality. A user could purchase a sponsorship for a given period of time, manage the banner and see their stats. Getting the timing part to function correctly would be challenging but this would be a dream (and worth paying for).

I am getting this message when i click the sponser banner. Can anybody please help me.

The path you entered on line 27 in link.php isn't valid. Either:
a)Double check the path for typos
b)Upload the settings-check.php file from the "do not upload" directory to the "vB.Sponsors" directory. This file will tell you the path you should enter. Remove this file when you are done.

This HAS to be a path issue. PM me your link.php file and a screenshot of the output from the settings-check.php file and I'll look it over for you.

Everything has gone good except for when i click on the sponsor banner or sponsor link then i get this database error

I have now fixed this by uninstalling the product then installing it again. I think this error is happening when people upgrade the product you need to uninstall it first before installing it again for some reason.

But everything seems to be working right now.

There's no way to change the text per forum. You can change it overall by editing the phrases. I'll add this idea to the feature requests list.

That's a good idea. There was a suggestion to have the sponsors able to view their own stats. Adding to the User CP is a great idea. (adding to the list)

You would just need to play with the templates. Check out djmini's site a couple posts up. You can really add the banners anywhere you like. Just be sure to use the <if> conditions within your html code. I'd suggest making a copy of your style and playing with that.

This is a great start. The ultimate addition to this pack which would make it a truly revolutionary addition is if you allow any registered user to purchase sponsorship of a given forum using the paid subscriptions functionality. A user could purchase a sponsorship for a given period of time, manage the banner and see their stats. Getting the timing part to function correctly would be challenging but this would be a dream (and worth paying for).

That would be in the template code itself. You would probably need to adjust it to align the way you like. You can wrap the <if> statements in any sort of HTML code (like <div> tags) that you like. You will need to post the template code for anyonw to be able to help you.

You need to post the template code for your subforum. The tempate name should be forumhome_forumbit_level1_post. You can get this from the style manager in the Admin CP.

Yes the no sponsor link issue you may want to look at becasue we have lots of local sponsors that dont have website..

I also noticed that when you are running subforum structure like this

Ok, I downloaded this a second time, but still don't have the Global menu in AdminCP, and still not seeing any text or ads in the forum rectangle.
I uploaded the file via FTP, imported product via Manage Products.
Did I miss something?
I have it turned on in Forum Manager, but again, not seeing the vbSponsors AdminCP tab, and not seeing the ad I was trying to show.

Don't know if it's any help, but the same happened to me. I logged out, uploaded the vbSponsors.php file to admincp again, overwriting the old one, and when I logged in again, it appeared in my menu.

Great hack, working well except for one glitch no one else seems to have, so I probably screwed up somewhere, but for the life of me can't figure it out.

When you click on the sponsors image, it goes to a redirect page, BUT the page says:

Can't find phrase ''

If your browser etc...
Proceed button

and then redirects just fine.

Great work on this hack. So easy to up load this hack.

Question:
1. I would like to show the sponsered link on the subforum's linked page. Meaning when they click the main forum sub forum it goes to a sub forum page and there is no link there. How can I ad this link to the page that the sub forum is linked to?

2. When I have a image in the forum title the sponser will not show up there. That is fine for me as long as I can have the image show in the page it links to.

I would say the link address that you have put in is incorrect.
It must be the full address http://www.domain_name.com


1. From the Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager
2. Choose Edit Forum next to the forum/category you wish to add a sponsor for
3. Under vB.Sponsors, choose Enable Sponsor YES
4. Enter the Sponsor's name
5. Choose whether or not to enable the sponsor's banner (a text link is displayed if set to NO)
6. Enter the path to the sponsor's banner
7. Enter the link to the sponsor's site

When I had installed Vbulletin 3.5.4 with Wb.sponsors I followed this steps:

- Uninstall Vb.Sponsors.
- Upgrade Vbulletin 3.5.4. to 3.6.0
- Reinstall Vb. Sponsors
- No more changes.

And at the moment its works fine.

That's an interesting layout there. If you look into the template code that's included, you should be able to use that with your template. It may require some tweaking since that appears to be a smaller layout.

Great hack, working well except for one glitch no one else seems to have, so I probably screwed up somewhere, but for the life of me can't figure it out.

When you click on the sponsors image, it goes to a redirect page, BUT the page says:

Just delete the text in between the <span></span> tags. No text will appear if you do that. You can't delete the phrase itself.

Here's the plan:

I will be releasing one final update for vBulletin 3.5.X. This will mostly be a code cleanup and perhaps a couple added features. After that release, there will only be maintenance releases (bugs, security, etc) for 3.5.X.

After that release, I will be releasing a vBulletin 3.6.X edition. This will likely arrive soon after the last 3.5.x edition is released as it will be minor changes to fully support 3.6.x. This edition will receive feature updates as well as maintenance releases.

To answer your question, this does work with vBulletin 3.6.X. It doesn't take advantage of some of the new features from vB 3.6 though (version checking, help topics, faqs, etc.).

Hope this answers some of the questions.

I'm getting this error now when clicking on the sponor banners.

All are enabled and links are correct. It looks like the software is looking at my server for the link to the off site address?

The banners are stored on my site in a folder if that helps.

My fatigue :D I had forgotten to add the forum/site name to line 27 in the links.php file. DOH!

By clicking on the banner link and seeing where it was directed and what it was looking for as it errored out. From there I started thinking in my mind how the flow of what was supposed to happen and it dawned on me I had forgotten a step.


Here is another question, if I upgrade to 1.05, do I re-install everything, or do I just drop the new files into the directory? This will be the first time I upgrade a hack and I was wondering if there was a short cut?

No you do not need to reinstall everything. Upload the files. Goto Add/Import product in the admin cp. Set Allow Overwrite to Yes. It should retain all of your settings.

I noticed a few other people have reported this problem, but there was never a posted solution as to how to fix it. When I click either of the links, I get a blank admincp page. Sounds like a Firefox related issue. Can you try Firefox 1.5.x? www.portableapps.com has a version that you don't need to "install". I'm curious if that resolves your issue. I use Firefox 1.5 myself without issues.

Also, I'd hold out for the 3.6.x version if I were you. There will be some changes that may not be compatible with the 3.5.x version. I'm still working on that right now.

I am wondering if there is a branding free option now because I have been waiting months to install this mod on my vb 3.5.4, but would rather have the branding free option before actually committing to this mod.

If you can let me know on the branding free, I would appreciate it.

This mod is exactly what I need and believe me when I say I need it bad! I'm running 3.6.2 so I'm gonna wait for the update. Hopefully soon?
