This is the current one, some members say it does not create a warm, welcome community feel...

I think they are both nice, but I like #1 the best :)

I can do that, but I want to decide which style to be default. Since this is a new site, I want it to give good first visual impression.

I am almost positive I'll be using the blue style. Perhaps I might take logo from the second style and put it into the first one. How does that sound?

IMO, the second "green" style appears more modern and tech-like. i like that one. the first reminds me of "windows" too much.
