Is there a place to edit this, or is there a hack to use?

AdminCP -> Languag & Phrases -> Phrase Manager -> Page 25 of GLOBAL Phrases -> click edit next to "sticky_thread_prefix"

you add what you want in the "English US Translation" box, so something like:

<span style="font-color:red;">Sticky:</span>

would work.
