I looked in the FAQ and searched the forums, and did not see an answer to my question.

On vBulletin.org, what does the "Install this modification" (or plug-in, or whatever) link in the first post of the thread do? (This link is above the link for downloading the file.) Is this simply to indicate that I will install the modification, so the creator can know who is using it?

Thanks,
Bruce

It will add you to the list of users that have this hack installed:
- It will increase the number of installs for this hack
- It will show the coder that you have installed it, if you are posting in the hack thread.
- If the coder sends out an update mail, you will receive a copy of it.
- The hack will be added to your list of installed hacks as you can view in your usercp
