Hello,

Is there any guideline in handling users that bluntly remove copyright notifications from modifications without any permission or without asking it?

Thanks

As the copyright holder, you need to make it clear how copyright notifications are handled in the license you assign to the code itself. If your license doesn't explicitly say that the copyright cannot be removed or there is no explicit license issued with the add-on there is no such enforcement.

vBulletin.org cannot enforce this, only the copyright holder can.

If you need to create easy to use and read licensing terms, I suggest visiting creativecommons.org.

Just leave the things I say, most are fairly unobtrusive, people should be ashamed.

Another reason why I think we need a paid section to enforce this.

I say bust them out in your hack thread.

If you are talking about GoogleMaps, adding your own copyright when google does most of the work is kinda lame. Perhaps those that remove it feel the same.

Yup.

You obviously havent used the hack then, it is very well done. And if they dont want to obey the authors wishes for a small credit then dont use it. What are these dimwits afraid of? Losing traffic???

Encoded hacks cannot be released on vB.org ;)

Anyway - If it is commercial there will be a licence that goes with it and if you break that licence your licence can be revoked, and/or legal action taken by the creator ;)

Hence the wishes for a commercial section where authors could do that.

Encoded hacks cannot be released on vB.org ;) I was going on the assumption that a paid hack section would be an ad section with a redirect to the author's site, not that for-pay hacks would be released from this site?

"Paid hack section" implies a forum dedicated to the release of paid hacks - Paid hack directory implies a list of sites with paid modifications ;)

Commercial or not it's still up to the copyright holder (you) to make clear what license your code is released under. Just because something is free doesn't mean there are no rights to it.

The author must protect his own work, commercial or not. It's false to say allowing commercial hacks here would allow someone to do this, in fact it has nothing to do with this thread at all.

Sorry, what I meant was to say that with paid hacks a cp removal could be an extra fee.

going in that direction is like saying this:

vBulletin shouldnt require someone to buy it because most of the work is done by PHP processing and MySQL storage of information.

Yes, Google does make the map and the imagery, but VBGoogleMap's author did the vBulletin backend for it..that kinda stuff isnt easy.

i can also come up with a huge leap

How about "You should pay Edison and Tesla because the computer intel created runs on electricity" :) :) :)
