This is somewhat a big request I think. I have this idea for my website, which has worked very well on the site that uses it right now (the site is moving next month). I want this to move on over with the new site, but more restricted, and automated (I do it manually right now). Anyway, over to the idea!
Concept
Fanclubs are user created clubs that have predefined attributes, which also acts as a social network creator. People have common interests, and thus want to join the same FCs. They use the FCs to talk about what the FC is about ex. "Franz Ferdinand FC".
Creating a FC
If you want to create an FC, you will have to post a topic that will have to be moderated, pre-defined fields needs to be filled out, like "Name", "FC button" (will come back to this later on), "Co-owner" (optional), "Mature FC" etc.
Joining a FC
If you want to join a fan club you simply push a "Join fan club" button (like "Install" on this page), a PM is sent to the owner so they know the user has joined. As well as all this, the post is updated with the name of the user in a predefined space and the "FC button" is added to their signature.
Leaving a FC
Same as joining, only you click yourself off the FC.
Options
Options for the system could be the following (to name a few).
X number of FCs any one user can join at any one time.
Only X usergroup can create FC.
FC creates are placed into X usergroup.
Which fields must be filled by the FC creator.
Size of FC button (max)
Show FC button in signature.
Show FC button on profile page.
Show FC button on Members List.
X number of Co-owners pr. page.
Let user place one FC button under avatar.
Add user created fields.
Shoutbox
Features
Let FC creators defines VIP users for their club.
Co-owners can edit main post (might be a problem, I don't know exactly how VB works).
Shoutbox
Creatores can defines which skin should be used in their FC.
Would look like
The script used on vB.org to show info about the plugin. Main post has a rightside bar which shows the button, name, how many users
Other uses
Could be used by sports forums so that users can select which team they root for.
Conclusion
I said it was big, would be cool though. And it's a nice way for users to "bond" and create social networks with one another. Please do give me feedback about this, and tell me your ideas!
Cheers
