oh sure NOOOW you come out wiht this!!

I commissed (paid for) this hack just a week ago (I have descriptions working too). heh. oh well... I needed when I needed it and it was worth it. I'll take a look just for comparison purposes anyway. :)

future request: if you can make compatible with vbaGallery and vbaCMPS that would rule.

I just didn't have time for descriptions now, i started to work on this this afternoon, and wanted to release it before my holiday since i already longtime promised people that i would look at it.

Descriptions will be added after my holiday (1 week).

I think this one will work with vba without modifications, but i didn't try. If they follow all the vB standards, it should just work.

But please give me feedback from your testing.

Oops, i already had the feeling i was forgetting something. Too much in a hurry to release it before i went out of the country (which is postponed until i don't know when).

Forgot to include the cpnav xml-file.

You can download the attached file and placee it in your ./includes/xml folder. Just refresh your AdminCP after uploading the file.

A new menu option will be added to the Forums & Moderators menugroup in your AdminCP after the file is uploaded.

Zip-file also updated.

Thanks Marco, works perfect and very easy to handle it.
It would be great if you could make the same for vba links directory and gallery.
Wondering also about this spupid 1 star rater, I'll give you 5 ;)

The "Translated Titles" are only showing the Forum Titles, don't ask me too specificly about it but the vba Titles are not changed. Think it's because vba is not 100% integrated into vb.

Marco van Herwaarden
11-11-2005, 07:48 PM
Well i guess you should ask the vBa coders to use standard functions. It would work then.

Then refresh the AdminCP

Hm, sad I don't think Brian (vba) will rewrite his software only for that.
But now it's a first step and I am happy about it.
One more question, did you thought about to make this translations in a way that it would be possible to add phrases into the forum titles?
I don't know absolutely anything about coding, maybe it is not an easy thing to do that. Thank you.

If you have uploaded them, and have admin permissions for forums, you should see them. The only reasons it might not work is when the filesystem permissions don't allow reading, or if you're using a very old beta of 3.5 (or still on 3.0).

still love to see integration though...either from the hack author end or the vba end....whichever comes first. :p

For those with problems in combination with vBAdvanced (asuming your talking about recent threads on homepage), you could do the following quick fix. Actually this could be an adviced change for all who use vBa, if they use my hack or not, it will reduce the load on the database server a little.

In modules/latesttopics.php find:
$threads = $db->query_read("
SELECT
" . iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showrating'], 'IF(votenum >= ' . $vbulletin->options['showvotes'] . ', votenum, 0) AS numbvote, IF(votenum >= ' . $vbulletin->options['showvotes'] . ' AND votenum != 0, votetotal / votenum, 0) AS voteavg,') . "
thread.threadid, thread.title, thread.replycount, postusername, postuserid, thread.dateline AS postdateline, IF(views <= thread.replycount, thread.replycount+1, views) AS views, thread.lastposter, thread.lastpost, pollid
" . iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showsubscribed'] AND $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'], ', NOT ISNULL(subscribethread.subscribethreadid) AS subscribed') .
iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showicon'], ', thread.iconid AS threadiconid, iconpath AS threadiconpath') .
iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showforum'], ',thread.forumid, forum.title AS forumtitle') .
iif ($mod_options['portal_threads_showpreview'] AND $vbulletin->options['threadpreview'], ', post.pagetext AS preview') . "
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread as thread
" . iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showicon'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'icon USING (iconid)') .
iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showforum'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'forum AS forum ON (thread.forumid = forum.forumid)') .
iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showpreview'] AND $vbulletin->options['threadpreview'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'post AS post ON (post.postid = thread.firstpostid)') .
$deljoin .
iif ($mod_options['portal_threads_showsubscribed'] AND $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'subscribethread AS subscribethread ON (subscribethread.threadid = thread.threadid AND subscribethread.userid = ' . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] . ')') . "
WHERE open != 10 AND thread.visible = 1
$mods[threadids]
$mods[inforums]
$mods[exforums]
$notdeleted
ORDER BY $mod_options[portal_threads_orderby] $mod_options[portal_threads_direction]
LIMIT $mod_options[portal_threads_maxthreads]
");

and REPLACE by:
$threads = $db->query_read("
SELECT
" . iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showrating'], 'IF(votenum >= ' . $vbulletin->options['showvotes'] . ', votenum, 0) AS numbvote, IF(votenum >= ' . $vbulletin->options['showvotes'] . ' AND votenum != 0, votetotal / votenum, 0) AS voteavg,') . "
thread.threadid, thread.forumid, thread.title, thread.replycount, postusername, postuserid, thread.dateline AS postdateline, IF(views <= thread.replycount, thread.replycount+1, views) AS views, thread.lastposter, thread.lastpost, pollid
" . iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showsubscribed'] AND $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'], ', NOT ISNULL(subscribethread.subscribethreadid) AS subscribed') .
iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showicon'], ', thread.iconid AS threadiconid, iconpath AS threadiconpath') .
iif ($mod_options['portal_threads_showpreview'] AND $vbulletin->options['threadpreview'], ', post.pagetext AS preview') . "
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread as thread
" . iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showicon'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'icon USING (iconid)') .
iif($mod_options['portal_threads_showpreview'] AND $vbulletin->options['threadpreview'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'post AS post ON (post.postid = thread.firstpostid)') .
$deljoin .
iif ($mod_options['portal_threads_showsubscribed'] AND $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'], ' LEFT JOIN ' . TABLE_PREFIX . 'subscribethread AS subscribethread ON (subscribethread.threadid = thread.threadid AND subscribethread.userid = ' . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] . ')') . "
WHERE open != 10 AND thread.visible = 1
$mods[threadids]
$mods[inforums]
$mods[exforums]
$notdeleted
ORDER BY $mod_options[portal_threads_orderby] $mod_options[portal_threads_direction]
LIMIT $mod_options[portal_threads_maxthreads]
");

Now find:
$mods['threadcount'] = $db->num_rows($threads);

while ($thread = $db->fetch_array($threads))
{
$bgclass = exec_switch_bg();

Add Under:
// MarcoH64
if ($mod_options['portal_threads_showforum'])
{
$thread['forumtitle'] = $vbulletin->datastore->registry->forumcache["$thread[forumid]"]['title_clean'];
}
// /MarcoH64

This will remove reading the forum title from the database. Instead it will be using the values that are already in the datastore (in memory, no query needed).

PS Someone could suggest this as a change in the standard vBa package since it is anyway an improvement.

MarcoH64 Thanks for the hack.
My question is may you add a field to thread posting and user profile where the user can select which language they are posting in on posting or replying to a thread, and a user option where the user can select which languages they speak, like if the user chooses just german & english the user wont see french threads and if the user selects only french then they wont see the other ones :)

Marco van Herwaarden
11-18-2005, 03:48 PM
That would be a totally different hack, and i will not add this to this hack.

But don't forgot to include a line explaining people, that excep DOWNLOADing they must use Product Manager to install product-mf_fl.xml.

One more suggestion - as of many languages are using not one bit characters, make the default title field size in database 250 characters.

Marco van Herwaarden
01-18-2007, 11:38 AM
But don't forgot to include a line explaining people, that excep DOWNLOADing they must use Product Manager to install product-mf_fl.xml.
Now that would require a major update i guess. :D

Thanks for the suggestion, if i will ever release a new version, i will make sure to include this.

About the column length: This modification is now confirming to the default title length in the vB forum table. If someone increases the length of the title in the forum tble, then they should do the same in the table this modification is using.

Eg. Forum A -> German

is it easy to modify this, so it will compare another variable to define which language is used?

I would like to install this mod in the following setting:

-> Forum language English (as I'm used to that)
-> Forum descriptions Dutch

Guess you'll understand what I mean.. I create a custom profile setting 'Forums Language' which can be Dutch/English and it only translates the titles/descriptions.

And members can optionally put two titles for a thread.. one for lang 1 and another for lang 2 for example. I mean another title field which gonna be optional.

This would be something that not many would use, so i am not going to spend time such a feature. But you can ofcourse edit the copy used on your own forum.

Not so sure if this would work in real life. Doubt many posters will provide double (or triple) translations of a title. It could be done i guess, but i would suggestto make that a seperate modification (and no, i don't have the time to create it).

About vbSEO.
It works with vbSEO 3.2 and VBulletin 3.7.1 I have now and I am sure that 3.8.x will work too if you DONT use forum titles in URL Rewrite rules.

The problem with vbSEO is - if you like to have the "forum titles" in URL, then you have problem, as of Marco's mod changes for each langage that variable that vbSEO uses during generation of the static-rewritten URL. You have in each langage new forum title and vbSeo is not able to remaster it.

For example:
Say you have forum named "Travel" www.blabla.com with id 74.

Then URL to that - www.blabla.com/forumdisplay.php?id=34 rewritten with VBSEO to www.blabla.com/Travel if your interface is in Englisch.

But as soon as you change to say French, this mode changes the Title of forum to "Voyage" and vbSeo trying to generate URL www.blabla.com/Voyage and is not able to pass corresponding real url to vbulletin as www.blabla.com/forumdisplay.php?id=34

Just for my case I escaped using Forum Title in URL rewrite rules and have www.blabla.com/forum[forumid]/

For Marco's mode one need to find a way to pass vbSEO only say forum titles of one langage, or write a rewrite rules in vbSeo for all languages - but this will mean double content as of URLs for search engines, will look like different, but content is same - this could bring penalties form searchmonsters like Google....

Such a solution should come from vBSEO. I am not going to make changes to this modification to make it work with vBSEO.

For those who facing URL rewrite problem in vBSEO, use vBSEO Slugs feature: http://www.vbseo.com/f2/vbseo-slugs-custom-forum-titles-9416/#post57221

no matter what lagnuage you use using this module to translate your forum name using vBSEO Slugs feature, your forum title will remain same as your current english rewrite rules.

I was need to uninstall, delete database entries and reinstall it on vb402.
Now it starts to work but I need to reenter all translations - seems something with datastore table got wrong after upgrade.

Marco I would suggest to store the data in separate table and not as row in datastore table of database.

The only problem remains, that as long any language is installed but not yet have translations.

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/global.php(29) : eval()'d code on line 18

As well take into account that if you use Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs with this mode the problem with search engines could appeear, as of your forums/thread having same content will be reachable under different urls, one for each translation. This problem was there in previous versions with vbSEO as I mentioned https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1763225&postcount=91, but now it is a porblem with compatibility of this mod with vb4.0.2 and not only vbSEO mod ;-)

Installed/ Upgraded it on vB4.1PL2 and it is working.

Did the usual:
I uploaded the files and imported with option override 'yes'.
Than I just activated the add-on.

(I had it before working on vB 3.84 and upgraded to vB 4.1 by the manual of Andreas)

You can reuse it, just try to uninstall and then install it again.

But as I menitoned before in #105 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2017570&postcount=105), you will need to write all translations from zero as well forgot/disable "Rewrite Friendly URLs" possibility in your forum...

can you be more precise? is it working with the last vbseo? if no there is a dead end because i'm not giving up using vbseo. also what translations are you reffering to? for the forum titles or ALL the translations from the forum.

It is working with vbseo as soon a you don't use in URL rewrites the names/titles of forums.
If forum names are translated with this mod they became unreachabe if in URL rewrite of VBSEO the Titles/names of forums are used.

I get an 'Invalid Language' response after translating my forum titles and saving them. What do you think could be responsible for this?

horussjr

working on 4.1.2 BUT you to:

- if using things related to seo and link changing your links MUST be created not by name of the forum but by id!!!!
- if you have a forum named "Prieten" (romanian) and you are using as forum's languages english and romanian you have to go to Forum language manager (created by this plugin) and translate the forums name for both of the languages like this. go to english and name it Friend and also go to romanian and re-enter Prieten.

IF you are NOT doing all this your forum will give you a lot of errors. Translate the forums with the site offline so only you can see and the traffic is reduced to almost none.... Enjoy!!!

If anybody gets such an error, try importing and overwriting the product with this one. That should fix the problem.
