View Full Version : Protest: X has updated HIS hack

Lea Verou

I suggest that the text is changed. It's not fair for the female coders to say "X has updated his hack". It should say "X has updated his/her hack".
Thanks. :p :p :p

there's hardly any female coders here..maybe 3 or 4 active ones, compaired to like 100's of male ones..And to boot, its only in one place..sheesh..

Lea Verou
11-10-2005, 07:54 PM
So what?? We should ignore them? Is that fair?

Oh, and how do you know that there are only 3-4? As far as I'm concerned there is no gender profile field... :rolleyes:

Anyway, you can't say there are only 3 or 4 because I can think of at least '3 or 4' people on here who simply haven't reveleaded their gender yet and are quite active in releasing code.

names are a flat give-away..males dont get names like amykhar, Rose, etc...lol.... and some of them purposely don't give their real names so they aren't hounded.

O.K. That's the last straw. I will not code another line until that is changed. In fact, I may file a gender discrimination suit. I feel so unappreciated. ;)

Yup, i feel the love going round :D

and 3 or 4 was an exageration..it was just a comparison..out of 100 coders, 3 or 4 will be female... :ermm:

So what?? We should ignore them? Is that fair?

I didnt say it wasnt fair, nor did I say it was..its only in one spot on this whole board..and from what I found, its in the update email..no big deal..im no womens rights activist, but its getting a tad-overboard.

Why does it really matter? Any serious coder spends so much time in front of their computer that, genitalia aside, they're completely asexual. :glasses:

BTW:
"has updated their hack"

their is a possessive pronoun; there, an adverb meaning "in the specified place"; they're, a contraction of "they are." "They're sitting over there in their seats."

In linguistics and grammar, a pronoun is a pro-form that substitutes for a noun or noun phrase with or without a determiner, such as you and they in English. The replaced phrase is the antecedent of the pronoun. A pronoun used for the item questioned in a question is called an interrogative pronoun, such as who.

For example, consider the sentence "John gave the coat to Alice." All three nouns in the sentence can be replaced by pronouns to give: "He gave it to her." If the coat, John, and Alice have been previously mentioned, the listener can deduce what the pronouns he, it and her refer to and understand the meaning of the sentence.

you still play t1? base or what mod?

Way back before time began I was:

HarryButt {TPG} ? The Porcelain Gods
>X< Apocalypse ? X-Men

I was playing Tribes I in the alpha and beta stages with many of the Devs (Got Milk?, and others). Helped in Dev of Shifter Mod, Ultra_Renegades w/ URG_THRASH, Ultra_VX w/ kissie_POO (UltraVXAuthor), and tons of other stuff long forgot.

There was about 2-300 of us back then 15-25 clans.

Played for 5 years.

Played T2 - for 30 min, then wint to BF1942 / DC - Now play BF2 and Diablo2 (old game), Run an old text/telnet/BBS game called TradeWars2002.

I had never played t1 when I bought t2. I tried it for a week and hated it, then a friend showed me t1 and I fell in love with it. I still play today :p

There's a few groups working on revamping t1 right now. One group is basically trying to replace all the graphics with up-to-date stuff. (this is the one I want most to succeed).

RenWerX (the renegades dev team) is actually making their own game using the engine that garagegames made. (the same one t2 uses I think... torque? tge/tse)

Then there's Legends which was also on torque, but it never really took off.

kinda sad.. if only vivendi/vug has supported vengeance and fixed its bugs. :/

We're guys. We'll burn anything with the right excuse. Jocks, boxers, Terrell Owens jerseys.

But one thing you don't have to teach me about are feminine abilities. I have a wife who has already done that. She is the single most capable person I know, whether its running a household while I travel 5 days a week, or saving lives on a daily basis at the hospital.

I deal with servers, SANs, routers and the like because I can't stand human beings. I have no idea how she does it.

In case anyone is wondering, that image is significant. In the UK, (!) is used for people with difficulty hearing, like me, in closed captioning to indicate sarcasm - the kind of thing we can't pick up from tonal qualities.

Yeay so I have gone from a male to an it?

Yet my work still remains a she lol.

Can it be so that hacks can have gender yet the coders cant?

If this is the case this is a sad and scary world we live in.

I could go on for hours about this. But I shall keep IT short. ;)

//This variable was passed to us from the imaginary name input screen.

echo("I am an it. I have no gender.");
} else {
echo("If we make it here we dont know what the hell you are. You broke the system. You should be scared.");
}

Sorry its 4:17am and I feel like coding lol.

According to the above script we are all its. That is the online script to determine a persons gender. :(

23 lines to determine gender is all it takes. I dont see why this is such a big deal lol.

Also keep in mind this script is integrated into vbulletin. ;)

Not since I told the admins 2-3 years ago to F*ck off.
There is to much crap there that the staff allows their members to do.

OGL / now WorldOGL - was ok when the admins did not play god over the fun and games.

TWL was ok for 1 round of games - yawn

CAL has the tude of only the best is here and most have a false since of god hood. It just isn?t worth all that to "relax and play a game".

I am going start my own spread, they all can blow.

Wow 40-60$ bra burring - save the time and light a cigar w/ a 50$. I only burn briefs when the washing machine cant get the skid marks out and they dont pass the smell test.

Just take your lumps for popping off and looking foolish and be dome with it. No harm, no foul. Heck, if I had a nickle for every time I opened my mouth just to switch feet, I'd be rich. You made a mistake, now join the club.

For that to make sense, you have to make a few leaps of logic. The first would be that the BB code I provided is installed here. To my knowledge it is not, therefore you wouldn't expect to see it here. Thats simple logic.

Second, you would have to completely disregard the paragraph itself. Remember your English grammar? Topic sentence, supporting ideas, conclusion?

You just assumed an awful lot. I really can't help you make sense of it. Nor do I see any reason to hijack this thread further with this side bar.

Good day, sir.

Its only because I hate to see someone embarrass themselves that I'll do this. Lets break it down sentence by sentence...

In case anyone is wondering, that image is significant.
The topic of this paragraph is the image. Everyone else got that. You're the only one that skipped this sentence, jumped to the next and assumed the topic was a quote.

In the UK, (!) is used for people with difficulty hearing, like me, in closed captioning to indicate sarcasm - the kind of thing we can't pick up from tonal qualities.
This is an explanation of the image itself. Notice again, there is no reference to any quote.

It seems to me that you are the only one confused by this. But if it helps your ego (and this thread) to move on, then let me say...

You are entirely correct(!) We stand humbled by the grandness that is your intellect(!) You keenly observed something that we all missed(!) Our lives have been enriched, and we are better for the experience(!)
