Looks good. But you should really work on your own style instead of using a premade one.

The reason why I have bought a proffessional skin is because I really do not have the time and skills to make a proffessional skin like the one I have on now ;)

It is a premade style, but not one that I have seen time and time again like some out there. Is it a new style? Either way..it looks very nice.

Your site is about nothing in particular. You need a niche audience.
The Chief
11-09-2005, 12:26 AM
What do you mean a niche audience?
filburt1
11-09-2005, 12:28 AM
An audience other than the ones already visiting the thousands of other gaming/music/movies/general chat forums out there.
The Chief
11-09-2005, 12:31 AM
yes I totally agree, but like I said in the first post, we have opened up aroudn 9 days ago, leave us time, don't you think?
filburt1
11-09-2005, 12:42 AM
I mean you should have started the forum specifically for one audience. You start with a small audience and work your way up slowly if needed, not vice versa.
I don't mean to sound critical but I have see far too many forums of this exact genre, and none successful.
The Chief

I thank you for your comments, but this is one if the reasons I did Entertainment forums, it was for the part of being successful and not ending up like all the other forums, etalk will be the greatest dail entertainment talk in the world, one day ;)

You might want to think about the size of a reply in a thread. One little reply is taking up the entire screen because of all the images (Avatar and Siggy). You might want to consider schlumping the member's name and info over to the side, it would make for easier navigation.
The Chief

how would I do that PurdyBurdy, because I would be glad to be able to do that...

-Absolutely pointless splash page. I could understand if it led to more than one area of your site but because it doesn't, I don't see the need at all for it.
-That 'register now' popup won't get you new members, just annoy the hell out of guests when they're trying to browse your forum to see WHY they should join up.
And consider yourself lucky you have a decent member base too, those forums are VERY common and so you've done great to get the member base you have. The trick now is to maintain it.

Agreed, I don't like the pop up at all.... it's annoying. Sorry. :(

Well, its not really the point that it's annoying, it goes off after 30 seconds...but if all of you say that it sucks, I might take it off...

How have you been advertising to get that many members? I'm kind of struggling to get members at my own forum http://www.hostaddicts.com, I was just wondering if you could give me a few tips ;)

Doesn't matter, it's annoying for that 30 seconds and you could lose a potential member in that time.

I think it's just the interest Gayble, alot of people like my forums and they are all SUPER active, I just need more members then now ;)

- Remove the splash page.
- Nice skin but, remove the thick red border around the main table (left/right). It's not needed and it detracts.
- Remove the left/right padding around main table.

This guy spammed my forum, I banned him on the server level. I sent him an email and he did not even bother to reply.
So if you want good remarks, don't go around spamming other forums.

Ehh, I agree, I gave him a warning on my forum and removed the posts, but he posted an advertisement for his forum twice on my forum.

It sort of was, you are spamming other peoples' forums, and it really is the lowest way to advertise next to putting ads on pr0n sites.

Good luck however......

Perhaps if you want to attain more active members, and more respectable quality (not content) focused members who will actually contribute something towards your forums appat from a slumbering post count you should try and learn more about the ethics of advertising. e.g., dont run around like a headless law defying chicken with no common morals just to get a couple of people view your site in pity.

Usually the people, when seeing the advertisements, it is there choice to click on the link or not, it is there choice to view the thread or not. It is also there choice to register on the site.
Law defying?? I really like the way that everybody just says, ahh you have BROKEN the law!! You must be punished, or venged or something. Take it like a Publicity on your house wall, you will take it off your wall as soon as you see it, it ends there. Users have the right to choose to look at the publicity and for all the people that think that advertising on other sites are STEALING members?? Maybe try to make your forum a little bit more interesting...
Well I think I have gotten my point of view across, I would really like some positive feedbacks on my forums. If you do not have any, then don't bother replying!
Thanks!

^ See that's exactly what I mean, you spam other peoples forums, but I see you have rules against it taking place on your site, and you can't take the heat here. Being biased, stubborn, and greedy won't help make your community very successful. You can have all the hacks, the best graphics, and even be unique, but if you have a character flaw it will restrict you greatly. Like now you are known across vb.org of all places as a spammer, that's a mad hit.
This thread is for all opinions, long as it's done in a constructive manor, you just have to accept it.

As I will try to reply to all of you people who think that I am a spammer, and I don't even get how people judge so fast by shooting out, "Hey, hes a spammer!!!", this is what alot of people think and what I really do not believe in..as alot of people really don't care and what most of the people should do also... for all the people who just follow the others saying, "Yeah, he spammed my board!" While spamming can be a big word, and alot of people use it the wrong way and really not accordingly correct.
Sorry for my english, and to reply to your recent "supposition", I actually have a forum setup for any people that would like to advertise. Which I think is really reasonable.
Like I said in my post before, please limit the replies to positive feedback and suggestions.
Thank you!

Yes but this negative criticism is really not about my forum but how I advertise on other sites. The opinions I would like have to be based entirely on my forum...

Ok - Here's some thoughts on your site:
The portal is cluttered - Makes navigation somewhat confusing, especially for newer people...
Your forums are also extremely slow to load - Server issues perhaps, I'm not sure - Made me impatient...
Hrm I can't continue to comment as it appears your server has just died... :p

Your attitude IS the biggest problem you have, and it will reflect on your site like said above. You are burning bridges and contacts by spamming other peoples forums and acting like you don't care here. You think that people are willing to give you a helping hand when you disrespected them? Get over yourself.
No matter what you say, no one is picking on you, you brought this on yourself.
So what would I do? Say that you are sorry for the spamming and offer up some free ad space for a month to the sites you disrespected, maybe stick around as affiliates if they even want to after that. You hearing me out here? Then people will offer up better more high quality opinions instead of take their shots in return for disrespecting them.

i have to agree with whoever said specialize and work your way up
u can increase alot of members by the following methods
right now u got music, games, movies, gfx i belive
cut that down and specialize in the ones your most knowledgable/comfortable with or have the resources to create unique content
for example if your doing movies have sections where people can request or share links from people that use p2p software, torrents etc also add new releases that have come out and reviews to go with them
get some people with free time who can write new articles for you
i would remove that big area at the top saying register its free!
and instead put something like a big news article or feature..something
controversial? that will make visitors go "hmm what the hell is this?" and they will sign up to find out and comment about it
u just need to stick out from the rest of the crowd basically
